I'm working on a story myself, and I know what you mean. It's hard to foresee awkwardness and rough plot lines when you write as you go. I'm still learning how to make my book run well, and I'm trying to learn from my experiences as I go.
Anyways, I'd encourage you to keep at it. You've got some good writing skills.-
