Translight Drive Systems in "Welcome to Valhalla" by AriesQuitex

Translight Drives in "Welcome to Valhalla"

Except the (Snow-)Leopards, none of the species that form the core of the WtV crew does posess translight capable starships.
However, the Habitat AC's have since long a far reaching trade beyond the Tau Ceti, or Valhalla, star system.
They manufactured spacestations for minor species in the galactic theater, and in exchange got a few translight stardrives which helped them reconstruct the concepts of the drives.
However, they don't build them as they see no need for such drives for themselves.

However, when searching smartly in the databases of a habitat, one might easily find a draft listing of the deep-space probes on what different drive systems they saw in action or, from analyzing remains of ancient wrecks and civilizations, were able to deduce.

Feedback, additional suggestions and such are most welcome!

List of translight capable drive systems:

Utilize exotic properties of space and particles:

Oscillation drive:
Hooks onto a stellar string and releases from it at another position.
No precalculation, Exitpoint unknown, but afterwards safe to and from travels. Routes shift with time.
Advanced drives jump strigns as neccessary to move toward a location. ( Oscillation Drive: Captain Future )

Tachyon drive:
Translate the ships mass into tachyon particles - ship cannot move slower than 1c until re-translated.

Quantum Tunnel:
Force a tunnel with a solid, uniform quantum effect to the destination. "Hypergate". ( Homeworld, Operation Outer Space )

(Quantum Effect?) Zoom drive / Drop Drive:
Modify the Cosmic constants valid for the ship, and slip through the spatial dimensions.
Drop through self-generated black hole / redusar / spatial pulsar, realign mass center of the ship.
Reappear / rematerialize in a new position. ( Found in some 60s / 70s SF book )

Dimension Distorting drives:

Linear drive:
Travel along between the borders of the different spatial dimensions - Flight on sight.
( Perry Rhodan, Sword of the Stars )

Hyper Drive:
Using a higher spatial dimension to shortcut. 2 drive concepts: Entering at slow speeds or entering at high speeds.
Slow methodology also usable for Hypergates for non-translight capable ships. Crazy Speed and ludicruous speed use, jsut as dimehexa / dimesepta drives, even still higher dimensions.
( Honor Harrington ( slow drive ), Generic SF (Flex, slow and fast drives), Spaceballs, Star Wars ( flex drives ) )

Warp drive:
Travel through chaos space - Hello nether realms! Variable translight speeds, larger distances = larger risks.
Exit point gets vacuumed into warp before ships appear in normal space.
Also usable for Hypergates for non-translight capable ships. ( WH40K ; Event Horizon )

Space folding drives

Alcubierre drive:
Deform space to gain translight space capability. Requires exotic matter. ( Alcubierre Drive, Star Trek Warp Drive )

(Hyper) Jump drive:
Instant teleportation after precalculating the jump and charging the drive.
Pretty painfull and a stress on the material. Blind jump might have you end up into some solid object.
( Perry Rhodan, Generic SF )

Gravitic Rail Drive:
Use gravitic folds in space ( lines of spatial stresses between celestial bodies ); Simpler version of the Alcubierre
drive, works without exotic matter, but is limited to using existing links. ( Sword of the Stars, Honor Harrington "Warp Points" )

Biological Components needed:

Spatial Transit Drive / "Dream Drive":
flight from one point in space to another with similar properties.
Knowledge / precomputing and drive charging needed for entering the space. ( Long Jump drive system )

Spatial Translation Drive:
Jump from one point to another one with identical properties. "smooth slide", ( aka Dune Guild Vessels )
