This is super important. Super-duper important.
I'll tl;dr it for you guys, though: Joel Hodgson, creator of the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 series, wants to bring it back. Complete with a set, robot puppets, and crazy mad scientists and everything. The basic goal for three episodes is $2 million, or 12 episodes for $5 mil.
But that's less important than the real goal: if they can make these numbers, it might get picked up for realsies, by Netflix or Amazon or somebody. We just have to prove the interest is there.
And fuck it, if Veronica Mars can do it, why can't this?
Edit: their Billion-dollar stretch goal is to adopt a small child and raise him to believe that he is the Pumaman. That alone is worth all of my Canadian pennies.
Wow, I thought the whole reason they were doing it for so long (aside from being hilarious) was because the episodes were insanely cheap to produce
I'm trying to imagine what they'd do differently with what seems to me like a big budget... Other than pumahuman I guess we'd finally get to see crow's legs?
hmm, seems cool and all, but what about Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy are they just not involved? Crow and Servo sound off to me
Kevin Murphy is Tom Servo's second voice, as is Bill Corbett's Crow- as far as I'm aware, MST3K is not going to include Kevin, Bill or Mike; and while that's a shame on many levels (I liked Mike more than Joel), it means there will be another team slinging jokes, and puppets will once again be involved.
This could be good- lord knows Mike, Bill and Kevin aren't the only comedians out there; there could be a REALLY SOLID TEAM that becomes the new gold (Crow) Standard.
There could also easily be a really terrible team. No way of knowing at the moment; I'm going to choose to be an optimist about this, though.
