Actual Post-Con Journal by Malachyte

Alright, I think I'm about caught up on things enough to warrant sitting down and typing a bunch.

Furpocalypse went amazingly, as I said. I was so wrapped up in FA:U prep that I neglected to get a dealer's table for Furpoc, but I think this was actually a boon in disguise. For months and months, I've just been working with very few friendly, in person interactions, so it was really nice to take whole days off from work and be with friends. I still did Artist's Alley on Saturday, and though I was only able to do black and white pencils (since I had to take the train there, and couldn't carry my Copic case), sales were still quite good. I also felt a lot more relaxed while drawing. This convention did wonders for my mental health.

So my car is still in an unusable state, and will be for quite a while. I had been planning to take the train out on Friday to the con, but ended up being able to arrive Thursday, last minute. So on Wednesday, I was suddenly preparing a lot of stuff as fast as I could, including finishing up two badges at around 2am, lol. I made it to the train on Thursday, though I was very nervous about getting on the wrong one and being trapped for hours to an incorrect destination and then having to hitchhike my way back or something. I met up with Katija, who I roomed with for the duration of the convention. Three cheers for her being such an amazing wah; we had so much fun being ridiculous together, ha ha.

From there, it's pretty much a blur of many, many friends, hanging out in rooms, drinking churro flavoured vodka, drawing for work and for play, and coming home with some awesome swag. Friday was mostly spent with Katija and BobbyCorwin and LavenderFox. It was a pleasure seeing those two again after 2 years (wow!). In the evening, I helped out Iggi (who made GOH, go you!) with her panel on Character Creation. You can find the slides for it here, and I'll be posting a picture of the character we made with the attendees shortly.

Saturday I got to hang out with Ettie, Mechsae and Kemotobi. I was in the alley for most of the daylight hours, with my table mate Aokintookami, who was simply lovely to work next to. It was his first time selling at a con, and he did great c: If you like muscles/bara stuff, maybe give him a look! After working, we (plus Reaver) all went out for Japanese food at Oyama, which was not great but not bad. I enjoyed my sushi well enough, but some of the orders came in incorrectly or cold for others. I also got a sketch commission earlier in the day, then thought the artist was a telemarker when he was calling me to pick up my art and answered the phone by yelling at him ;u; That was really embarrassing. Then I went to bed at 5am.

So then I wake up at around 8am, naturally. By now, my throat sounds like I've been chain smoking and I can barely talk. I spend most of my days at home not making much sound at all, but I was talking, and loudly, SO MUCH during this convention that I actually hurt myself for a few days, ha ha. Thankfully I did not get sick. Sunday was spent finishing up sketch commissions and hanging out in the zoo quite a lot. I ran in to Stigmata and Ari (Bob Ross) towards the end of the night and got to chat with them some more, as well as more time with Iggi, Jack, and probably like a million other people I'm forgetting.

I rode home with Ettie and Mech, and we stopped at some gas station for food, staffed by the single nicest dude I have ever run into at a gas station. I wanted to leave him a tip so bad for just being really sweet, but he wasn't allowed to take them. I'll never forget you, store attendant Ron. I hope you got to see that episode of Walking Dead you were asking us about o/

Honorable mentions! I also met Jerhevon finally, saw/drew for DubCub again, met two absolute sweeties who were way too excited to meet someone as lame as me (AsamiKuro and Kitsulynx), said hi to BlondeVelvet, and got that cool guy Spartadog's number for future art hangout bidniss. And that's the gist of it!

More posts about actual work stuff, including opening up for commissions (holy shit), will be coming tomorrow.
