No conventions for me in 2016. by DannyDingo

Hey gang!

It's with a very heavy heart for me to say this but next year, 2016, I will officially be taking a break from attending conventions, not just for financial reasons, but here's why: basically, my grandmother is not doing well health wise and she may not have much longer to live. And to complicate things even further, she lives in Germany, meaning that when she passes away, all three of us (my brother, my sister and myself) will have to fly to Germany right away to collect our inheritance as well as for the reading of her last will, and things like that.

As we all know, next day plane tickets, especially to locations overseas are expensive as hell and next year, I really need to start preparing for this. I'll still be at MFF this year because there are a few people going that I'd really like to meet and see again, and I will still be at Furnal Equinox since that is a local con for me. But next year, you will not be seeing me at cons like Anthrocon, MFF and yes (gulp) possibly even MediaWest*Con. My only source of income besides ODSP at the moment is from doing freelance work (video production, mascot work, etc.) and it's becoming much harder to find steady work.

This doesn't of course mean that I'm taking a break from the fandom as a whole. I'm just going to be a little more scarce next year. I'll still be at local fur meets and things like that; just not at conventions, unless of course by some God forsaken miracle, I am able to make at least $3000 within the next six months (which is highly unlikely, but I mean anything could happen between now and then). We'll just have to wait and see how things will work out.

Thank you very much for understanding and if anything else, I will see you all again in 2017!
