Looking for Bird-Drawing Tips! ^^ by susurrant...surprise

I have no experience with drawing birds (except the occasional duck doodle), and I was wondering if anyone could help me!

For example, I see lots of pictures of anthro and feral birds with different emotions and stuff in them. Because birds don't have mouths, I'm not sure how to make the emotions clear... Is it only in the eyes, or a certain way the beak is drawn or something?? ^^; Is body language used? As much as I look at those pictures, I can't reproduce the emotions in my own work and I can't pinpoint the specific details that contribute to the overall appearance. xwx

Also is there an easy way to remember how wings are drawn? I just kinda know where they are on the body, but if there's a specific pattern for how most wings can be drawn I'd love to know it. ^^

I was going to ask something else, but I can't remember ^^; Just if you have any general bird drawing tips, I'd love to hear them! If t helps, the specific bird I'm wanting to draw is a sulphur-crested cockatoo ^^

Well, I am no pro at birds yet (despite loving birds a lot and trying to practice for a long time) but here's a tutorial that helped me quite a bit with what I currently know:

It helps taking a look at the feathers arrangement in more detail, too:

As for expressions, I usually have to bend reality a bit. I haven't really experimented with bird expressions nearly as much as I should but so far I just add a smile, eyelids and eyebrows (tiny eyebrows in my case because I don't like actual eyebrows in my style, but that's just preference) like I do on any creature, really:

Not the most accurate thing ever, but in reality, most animals can't really smile anyway, so yay artistic liberty! lol

Birds are super cool but super hard to draw. It's a complicated thing to translate them into anthros.
I hope to have helped a bit, though! ^^
