RE: FA Forum Status fender journal by Kalmor

Seems like here, FA, you are trying to frame the forum mods as bad guys by claiming we didn't sign the NDA that "protected user data", which in truth the staff didn't because you had requested government IDs off them and your insistence that they sign it especially after the FATransparency leaks were very suspicious.

Dragoneer, you said yourself that no one would be removed from staff if mods talked shit about FA, yet Renashe was removed from staff for that exact reason. Renashe is one of the most community focused people I know, she only strives to do what's best for the furry community. You could've used her as an amazing asset yet you threw her in the trash because she was "too critical".

But lets get to the important point:

The FA forums community DECIDED ON THEIR OWN MERIT to split from FA. THE COMMUNITY WANTED IT by an 80% margin on the forum poll carenath made. WHY WON'T YOU LISTEN TO THEM? This is a problem with FA as a whole. Each time staff members approached you with community focused ideas, we hit brick wall after brick wall of stubborn upper management. You claim you care about the community but you won't listen to them.

None of the upper management were even involved or even reached out to us during this mess. It was only Yak that was trying to liaise with us. It seemed like you didn't care at all and wanted to push it under the rug. You didn't say ANYTHING until your overlords IMVU got involved. Even they saw how messed up the situation was and how your silence up until this point was completely unwarranted.

I am severely disappointed but not at all surprised that you're trying to go into PR spin mode instead of being absolutely honest with your users for once and admit you fucked up.

A whole load of bullshit coming from them and the usual sweeping everything under the rug as they always do, big surprise. The real shame is that the FA community will continue to sit in a sewage filled site and ignore this sort of thing.

    • Link

      The community deserves much better.

  • Link

Let's be rational here: this is all about Dragoneer keeping an iron grip on all aspects of the fur community and whatever he regards as 'items within FA's interests'. This has nothing at all to do with user data at all - it's literally all about keeping the FA empire as large as he possibly can.

The fact that the current FA news journal paints the forum staff as a bunch of data-abusing, power-hungry madmen pretty much serves to highlight how willing Dragoneer and his cronies are to tar people with the bad brush if it serves his own cause. It's fucking disgusting how he's willing to drag the names of some pretty decent people through the mud in order to retain his grip on certain portions of the community, and honestly, if I were Carenath, I'd have just said FUCK IT and purged the entire database.

    • Link

It's absolutely disgusting, I've been following all of this very closely. Carenath did so much to try and resolve things amicably and stretched so far for the sake of a small community. To step on these people like this is villainous.

      • Link

That's my major bugbear, if I'm honest. FA can keep the forums, I never used them. What bothers me the most is how the people who sustained and managed the forums, in their own free time, have been trodden down.

    • Link

Not to mention they left out the thing that actually made most of the forum mods leave (the ID thing).

      • Link

Because why let pesky things like impartiality and facts get in the way of your smear campaign?

        • Link

Was that a well masked Extra Credits reference?

          • Link

I have no idea what Extra Credits is, so no :P

      • Link

Oh, and while I'm at it: it's worth mentioning that I've staffed InvisionFree forums before that allowed Administrators to view user IPs and emails, without having to fork out my ID or sign an NDA. I staff on the 405th currently (http://www.405th.com) as a Librarian, and I haven't had to sign any paperwork or hand the site owner my ID - and he runs several forums as a business. There will be terms in place to ensure there's legal recourse if people misuse that data, certainly, but otherwise, the data itself is still there and easily viewed by anybody with sufficient privileges.

The art is in not hiring fucking retards who'll misuse the data.

    • Link

Mhmm. Any extensive analysis of Dragoneer will show that he only cares about being important. He will do EVERYTHING within his power to remain in a position of importance, hence his iron grip on FA. Anything that threatens it, any information that might cause dissent, he sees as a direct threat to himself and his sense of self worth. This has been proven over and over, through his actions, and his words in both public and private places.

      • Link

Yep. The FA forums would have quietly sat around for another five years being ignored by the main-site FA staff unless they needed to announce main-site downtime otherwise. Notice how it's only when people begin threatening to leave any portion of FA that Dragoneer actually takes action on anything. It's fucking sad to watch, honestly.

  • Link

Not surprised in the least, FA account is now voluntarily disabled. I'm done with the site and "their" forum.

    • Link

Welcome to the dark side. :V

      • Link

        Where are my cookies? :V

  • Link

Oh but the forums didn't split on their own.

According to Sciggles, there was no 'official' poll that THEY made [and used several hundred accounts to rig the results], nevermind that the forum users who are all mostly also FA users agreed to split FAF from FA 9w6 Because they totally own the forums they never paid for. Though, based on her logic anywhere that an FA member logs into is FA user data.

  • Link

I get the feeling that journal's 'real' intention is to blame the sites problems on the ex-staff/mods, as it seemed very biased. :/

    • Link

How it is worded, it makes you think so.
Personally, the reasons why the forums were pulled could have been left out. However, that would have left a lot of users questioning why the forum were gone in the first place. It hurts to read something that you were once involved in and feeling like the bad guy because of someone else's fuckups.

      • Link

Exactly this. It felt like a kick in the balls considering how much time we put into that place over the years. We were only doing what the community asked of us.

        • Link

Yep. Mostly just making sure the forums didn't catch on fire from spambots or some asshat posting goatsee in every thread.

  • Link

    Sounds like typical 'Neer. >.>

    • Link

      Indeed.

  • Link

Hah, yep. No bias from our supreme overlords. None at all.

    • Link

      PR spin mode engage!

  • Link

Typical ass covering damage mode, typical Dumbaneer, all them more reason for my continued refusal to post whole work there and instead reroute traffic to other furry art sites via whole image links in the description.

    • Link

      Keep that up!

  • Link

    Am I reading the jimquisition?

    • Link

      XD

      • Link

What do you think will become of all of this in the direction it's going?

  • Link

Honestly, I wish I could wipe my forum-ccount on there myself before the 'new' forums go live.
I do not want Neer to profit off of or make use of my contributions, however (un)helpful they might have been.

I want them to lose my information, nuke my account and all date with it. And somehow, I don't trust them to do it even if they promised they would.

    • Link

      I understand that completely.

I just drew this cartoon in response to the new Fender journal. https://www.weasyl.com/submission/1110558/cinnamon-vs-furaffinity-comic
