I will start a NyanChat session in about 1 hour, 07:00 my time (East-Europe), it is roughly 06:00 here.
What is NyanChat ?
It is a collaborative art tool where different people can chat and draw at the same time all at once on same canvas.
Where can I get it ?
You can download it from here : http://www.tmeeco.eu/BitShit/NyanChat.rar
How do I join ?
*You start nyanchat20.exe and will be greeted with a box asking server to connect to and your username.
*This here is what you enter to the server field : www.tmeeco.eu:2220:20
*I suggest you put a name that I would recognize in the username box, you cannot change the username later on, only by re-logging on, and in case of connection issues I can make you a "presistent" user so that the stuff you worked on before can be continued when you log in again. Normally the stuff you worked on gets orphaned and you won't be able to continue working on it.
*Then you click the Connect button.
*Now, you see a blank screen. Do NOT start a new image. Instead you select "You Can Draw Here" from the "image" list in lower right of the screen.
*Now you will be on the canvas ! BUUUUUT you can only start drawing when you catch up with what has been happening meanwhile, that involves seeing all the stuff in fast forward until the most recent stuff. At that point you'll be able to actually interact with others. This can take a while when you arrive later on. Just wait, there's nothing you can do about it.
How do I leave ?
Just close the program. I suggest you tell when you leave and please don't clear your layers, I would love to have all stuff intact when the final image gets posted.
Pointers for drawing
*There's a list of default brushes but they are all pretty funky and not necessarily useful.
*If the input is really laggy for you then decrease the "correct" value. Your lines will look less smooth but the latency decreases dramatically.
*Your layers always appear below everyone else's. Layers of other people always appear above yours and the order I am not completely sure of. This makes actual collabing of art a bit difficult as stuff shows up different for each side. When there is no overlap all is fine. This however can cause issues when you have large area painted white, it might seem like blank canvas but in reality nobody else can draw on it because it will appear above their layers. This really is the biggest shortcoming of NyanChat. I am aware of other programs but I never got friends with their brushes or features.
*If you want pencil like look use these settings :
Size : 0.5
Opacity : 100
PS Opacity : 100
Spacing 3...20 (controls how dark the line appears)
Jitter 3...10 (controls how gritty the line is, and also how wide)
I think this covers most stuff. See you there !
