Keeping up, commissions, and content! by Meg James

First: I'm trying to get better at keeping up on weasyl! At one point, I missed weasyl for a few days and the art in my message center got piled up to like 800+. The main reason I wasn't too active was because I had to look at all of it because I'm following a bunch of really great artists and all their art is great.
I'll start posting more art on weasyl too! I'm not actually more active anywhere else - weasyl's my main site at the moment, but I have a bad habit of forgetting to upload stuff. I also feel bad uploading things to weasyl if I haven't looked at what other people have submitted (which relates to the above). I don't wanna just throw stuff up here and not pay attention to other peoples' work!

Second: I'm still very, VERY open for commissions! (►There is commission info here!◄) Especially now. Here's some background (tl;dr below):

I have a part-time job right now, but the hours (and my income) are incredibly variable, and it's been very hard to find another part-time job with hours that can work around my current job. It's also proving hard to find a full-time job! Unfortunately I don't think anyone I'm working with will give me a good reference right now if they think I'm trying to quit. They're weird like that. They're a bit understaffed and they don't want anyone leaving. But anyway, that job might end soon (boss maybe retiring soon, but don't know how soon??), at which point I might be able to use someone there as a reference. But for now, I feel like I'm a little stuck.
I'm trying to save up cash to eventually move out on my own. My family is nice, but there's a lot of difference in political/religious views and my parents still don't seem entirely willing to understand trans issues and my identity. It'll be a while before I can move out, but hopefully not as much of a while as it could be!

tl;dr the gist of it is I'm looking at commissions as one of my better possibilities, since my current job is inconsistent and awfully silly and I have Big Goals I want to work toward. I also just have a lot of fun with commissions! I can only draw my own characters so many times :P

Third: Content?? I realize for being on a furry site I probably don't draw nearly as many furries as expected. Most of my own characters are like, fantasy-genre humanoids. That tends to be a lot of what I upload. I really like drawing furries too though! And I know there are lots of other kinds of characters out there - so what do you like? Anything you'd like to see more of? Any ideas?? Favorite animals/fantasy beastums?? Boy I like dragons. Dragons are on the agenda.

Keeping up, commissions, and content!

I actually stumbled across your art because of your awesome humanoid characters! I want to commission you someday when I can decide on a character that has decent refs, lol.

Ohhh why thank you! I definitely default to humanoids, but I still feel like it wouldn't hurt to try more anthro/furry art if I'm using a site like weasyl. Anyway, variety is nice!
God, I understand the struggle of trying to choose a character. That's always been the main thing stopping me from commissioning other artists, haha!

Absolutely! Any kind of dog is obviously pretty popular--dragons too, yes!

I'm always up for seeing cool monsters--for some reason I've seen a lot of mothman pics floating around lately. Halloween is fast approaching so it seems a fine time to delve into spooky critter art!

YEAH oh man, can you believe for a minute there I actually forgot Halloween was on the way?? That's a great excuse for monsters and all kinds of scary stuff (as if anyone needs an excuse). I'll have to start brainstormin'!

I too nearly forgot about Halloween! It hit me the other day, "oh it's almost October already. SPOOKY SEASON DRAWS NEAR"

Honestly I start cringing and hiding as soon as the 4th of July is over because Christmas crap starts oozing into stores like a festive blob plotting to absorb all holidays into its ominous, jingling, pine-scented figgy pudding mass.
