Megaplex Review! (AKA Mudplex 2015) by Leilia

Finally getting around to posting about Megaplex, it's been a bit of a hectic week!

Gosh, Megaplex was so much fun this year!! Selling in the Dealer's Den was really a great experience, definitely want to do it again next year. Though I was hoping to make a bit more than I did, it was still a very successful weekend, so I am happy. :) I am also glad I was able to debut my Corgi Pupples at the con, because they were by-far my most popular item! Everyone wanted corgis apparently! XD I am really happy that my original pieces have been selling. It was a bit scary to move completely away from fanart, so it gives me hope that my original ideas can gain some interest from people.

It was so wonderful to spend time with old friends and make some new ones as well! Sharing a table with Roboshark and ZetaNeubourn was really wonderful, and it was so much fun to spend time with them this weekend! Also loved getting to see goldendruid, paintzapper, SnootSkunk, Raze117, Candorian, caustickeet and more(so sorry if I missed anyone, my memory is not the best sometimes)!

I was really happy to see the changes in the artist alley this year. It looked so much more organized and professional! There was so many talented artists out there as well, I definitely commissioned some lovely pieces of art from a few.

And gosh, sooo many cute fursuits! Makes me even more excited for when I get mine! I was sad that I didn't get to see as many being stuck at the dealer's booth(also missed the fursuit parade because they skipped the dealer's den, and that was quite a bummer!)

Oh, and seeing the CARE animals they brought to raise money for charity was really cool as well! I got to hold an adorable tegu and that totally made my day. XD

There were only a couple things that were a bit frustrating. One was the absolutely terrible wifi in the dealer's den. I am fortunate I didn't need to use it to work on commissions like many artists did, but trying to run the square readers was quite a challenge a lot of the time. And then, as the title says, I will forever remember this con as Mudplex 2015. After 3 days of torrential rain, the dirt lot that was designated for parking turned into a nightmarish mud pit. Putting aside the fact that it was awful trudging through it all just to get to and from the con, trying to get cars in and out was truly awful. On Saturday night a large group of us had to push a truck out of the mud that had gotten stuck. That was quite an experience. Then, when trying to leave on Sunday, my poor little green car also got stuck, and it took quite a bit of work to finally get it out. Though aside from the effects on my car(had to take it in for some balance issues, plus a full service car wash this week), it will certainly be something we can laugh about and remember for years to come. I am also just so impressed with the generosity and kindness of this community as a whole. Not a single person who saw the cars stuck in the mud hesitated to jump out and help, even if it meant getting covered head to toe in stinky swamp mud. It was a truly amazing thing to see.

All in all, Megaplex 2015 will go down as one to remember, and I am unbelievably excited for next year(Also that new hotel, HOLY CRAP! I am definitely getting a room next year, it's going to be amazing!). If anyone is interested in seeing photos, I posted several on my twitter and instagram accounts(both are @LeiliaClay).

I know I got quite a few people asking about commissions at Megaplex, I will be posting a journal about openings for those very soon, so keep an eye out!
