Weasyl Vs Furaffinity. by redregon

Does it even really need to be a thing?

well, if you have had experiences like i have, you'd understand that a website's staff's behavior helps to shape one's general experience on a site... because they are the support structure for the site's functionality. If the staff behave in a less-than-honourable manner, the site will eventually suffer as a result.

thing is, with FA, for the longest time it was "THE" unofficial central hub of the fandom (in the west at least.) with that came a lot of attention and a lot of situations and these are the situations which led me to decide to migrate (and it was a bit of one of those "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" kinds of things too.) That all being said, if fa were to be shut down for whatever reason that'd leave a lot of furries out in the cold... So, one that was viewed with a high esteem would quickly become the pariah.

Now, i've heard some say that there is some animosity between the sites... Why? seriously, Why? spreading the fandom out over multiple sites only serves to increase the visibility and help protect against problems. it is essentially the very reason why "don't put all your eggs in one basket" is a saying. If there is animosity, that would mean that it's not about the fandom's benefit but about personal benefit... and that's not the right reason to do something that incorporates so many people.

So, why there is even any "Weasyl vs Furaffinity" sentiment makes me think that this tribalistic mindset is going to eventually cause a schism in the fandom... and for what reason? for someone's preception of personal benefit? no... that's not a good thing.

For me, if anyone really wants, (or needs), to know why I'm moving here full time, I'll just point them to the Encyclopedia Dramatica article concerning fa, and bring up the stalker incident. Also, just today, I read Dragoneer is permabanning Forge for something he said offsite, etc, and blah blah. Anyway, let the good times roll.

Yeah, that did strike me as woefully unprofessional. Granted, I'm not saying i defend Forge's actions but FA's staff going out of their way to do what they did (especially given they have been explicit in the whole "stuff that happens off-site is none of our concern" thing) Is certainly just a really bad P.R. move (even more-so given that Forge has a very large audience.)
