Something I hate about working on RPGs. by rainkaimaramon

Here's a rub that drives me utterly and completely insane when I work on Role Playing Games is this one thing, it causes me to lose confidence and lose interest in working on anything for a while. I hate each and every time it is brought up, I want to slap people when it happens.

Grammar whining.

I hate it when people have a full on hissy fit about how they want a full Oxford trained proofreader, seriously this guy who thinks he's Doctor Doom on RPGnet demanded this. Forgetting that a low end editor cost in the three hundred dollar range, someone like that would be thousands.

I work without a budget, all writing is done on a Thinkpad I fished out of a trash and repaired, formatting is done on a computer that was a gift and whipped through Openoffice spell checker. Now I ask, does that sound like someone who CAN afford a guy to poke around for where comma errors?

I had dawned on me, grammar are to books as graphics are to Video Games. No one is happy for the passable if the experience is enjoyable, they want the highest, the biggest and the most expensive regardless on the maker's slim budget. They demand basically Call Of Duty level quality from people who can barely make a Commodore 64 game.

Something I hate about working on RPGs.
