You can set your journals to only address friends.

    Also if you add someone as a friend, you don't necessarily get upload notifications from them like you do with follow option. Visibility option for "friends only" by the way can be set for just about anything on your profile too, in addition to Journals as Feathergrove stated above. I just read a whole bunch of info about Weasyl lol...

Let's say a friend of mine is into horrible violent torture porn. I don't want to see his submissions, but he's a friend of mine so it's cool to friend him.
