Money Saving Tips by Alkaris

So I got thinking a little bit, and just thinking about saving tips so you got more for yourself to do what you want to do. So take my little guide here as an example, which works for me, and might for you too…

➀ — Should I buy this now or later?

You're probably faced with this everyday, considering whether you should buy something, and may wonder "is it really worth the investment to get this?" I should ask you, do you REALLY need it right there and then at that moment in time or can you hold off till later when you do really need it? You see something you'd like to buy at a shop and you look at the price tag and wonder if you should get it now or later. Most quite often it might be better getting it later when you have saved up enough and can afford it.

Myself whenever I see something I want to get, I look at my options and consider if I really need it. If your answer is "I would 'like' to get it." then your answer is probably most likely not to get it right there and then in that time. Also consider the fact how much you will use it. If you're not likely to use it that much then it's also probably not worth it if you're only just gonna use it for a couple months and then set it aside afterward. Take portable console gaming for example, would you play portable handheld consoles like Nintendo 3DS or PS Vita from time to time at home or on the go? I quite like playing portable handheld console games while on the go if it's gonna be a long trip just to pass the time and in my own leisure time at home.

➁ — Hoarding

Let's face it… everyone's known to hoard certain things in their lives just to make a little collection of their own. This comes with a certain satisfaction of completion in their personal lives, but must add more to their collection as time goes on with new interests for things. Consider the fact that if you have enough for spending on collectables then it might be worth it. For myself I'm not too big on collectables, but I do like to collect things and hoard certain things. Pokémon Trading Card game is one example of things to hoard into a personal collection pile. Having your bedroom and shelves filled and lined neatly in a A-Z format and treating certain things with extra care so to preserve its condition in hopes that later it will be worth a lot more money. I know some people hoard for the intent to sell things off later as they become worth a lot more money at a later time that they become this vintage prized possession with the golden spotlight inside that special glass casing. Like that legendary super rare shiny Ancient Mew Pokémon Card which sells for millions of dollars.

Hoarding can be both good and bad in itself… you got something that will be worth more later. The bad side is you'll run out of space or everything, even with your neatly organized shelves and such, and will probably cost you a fair amount to get the stuff to begin with. So always consider whether it's worth the investment to hoard particular things that you may consider auctioning off later. I know some of you may collect things with no intent to sell them off, but everyone's different in their own way. Be it a special momento from someone in particular or some other reason you may have…

➂ — Buying Commissions / Art

This is a common thing here for furry community here, and it's buying art commissions from artists. While artists use this as a source of income for themselves, it's a tough job for them to do, and all their efforts pay off with the amount of hours going into their works. This is just merely business for the artists, by doing it out of their willingness and dedication to stick to it and to strive for better. Every artist has their own varying costs for their commissions, from relatively cheap to relatively expensive depending on the type of commission they are offering, plus the amount of hours that go into the artworks factor their price rates that they think their work is worth. It's tough job for artists for them to not either undersell themselves too much for a low costs, or overselling themselves for a high cost. It's important for them to find the right kind of balance they think it's worth.

For the commissioner, I see this quite a bit happening to other artists where people do not have the funds they should of had when they considered to do business with the artists they wish to commission. In my eyes I red flag this kind of behaviour for people to not have the money ready that is due when their commission is being done or has been done. The artists themselves can't wait around for you to not pay them when they expect it to be paid. So my advise to this kind of thing is to PRE-plan when you wish to buy a commission, so then it gives you the time to save up what funds you need in order for you to commission that artist. Prioritize your money in a way so that you can then look at it at a third-perspective view and go "Hey… so I need to have X amount of money to commission this artist, so I'll save up for the coming weeks for it." smart planning is better than just simply doing so without planning ahead so you can make sure you have enough money to pay them when the time comes for it. -- "But this artist has limited slots and I want to get something now!" If you don't have the funds for getting something now, then you'll just have to wait till the next time they open when you do have the funds for something next time they open for more slots.

Whenever I go to commission someone I like to prioritize my money to overlook how much I can spend for something. Plus I also like to pay the artist whenever I can as soon as possible, either before the commission is to be done, or after, depending on the artist and how they handle their business in taking commissions. -- Anyway… when it comes to buying commissions just ask yourself… "Can I afford it at this time?" and if you don't just save up for it and try at another time when you can. I see a lot of folks like to just simply buy commissions after commissions on a regular basis with little to no break, while this is in the person's own business to do so, and if they can afford it all then let them be. I hate that folks play the "Social Status Quo" card just because some folks can buy a lot of art they've commissioned for. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion of course, but when everybody plays that "Social Status Quo" card which makes that person look entitled or "Popufur" as some people call it based on the number of commissions that person has, and I hate this kind of thing, or being called popufur just because of the number of commissions a person has obtained over the years. I've had few people comment about that sometimes saying I'm "popufur" because they've seen my characters around. Just because you see a certain character around a lot does not insta-make them popufur at all, rather more well known as I like to call it, that the people become familiar with the characters themselves.

proooobably yappered on bit too much with stuffs but I hope some information is useful… xD

Oh man, this sort of thing is why I almost never get art. If I do get a commission, it tends to be either a dirt cheap bargain, or I know the person really needs the money more than I do.
