Oooooh why did Weasyl did THAT?!? by STrRedWolf

Okay, so this is a first time mucking with Weasyl... and it deserves not it's beta tag, but back more towards alpha. Why is that?

Weasyl isn't simple and straight forward enough. It's a flaw in the user interface and intended user experience.

Well, following users is fast enough, there's a link there. But as people are posting you have submissions. Sure, it'll list them and you can view them... but how do you remove the notifications?

DA and FA have checkboxes and controls right there. Weasyl directs you to another page to do that. In addition, if you want to remove ANY of them, you are smacked over the head with a confirm. I can see it for the "Remove All" or NUKE button but not for "Remove Checked!"

This "throw roadblocks to getting things done" theme also extends to just posting this journal! DA gives you multiple ways to enter in a journal entry, including a button on the journal list/blog roll itself and in it's dropdown menu. FA used to hide the post entry in a profile page, but now you can access it from the dropdown "My FA" menu, so it got better. Weasyl treats journal entries as a submission! Journals, aka blogs, aren't submissions! Stories are submissions! Essays are submissions! The rantings of a curmudgeon grey muzzle are NOT submissions!

AND WHY THE HELL DO I HAVE TO RATE A JOURNAL POST?!?!

That is what I just found on my "first impression" and it's not been good. I'll hold the page and whatnot but I'm not tempted to upload artwork on it.

Oooooh why did Weasyl did THAT?!?

I agree that there are pretty much way too many steps to removing submissions from the notifications. I wonder why they set it up that way because it doesn't make sense to me either!

My issue with this site at first is just the literary submissions, why just .txt alone? And yes It's everything you just said. I'm in it for the prospect of organization, make/readjust your thumbnails and built in indicators for commissions and streaming. A feature FA hasn't yet implemented and DA fails spectacularly with when in the fine print, they want a cut of your profits for their commission widget.

    Thank you for the feedback.

To start with the problem of clicks per action, we understand this is a problem and it is something our devs are working on in an overall UI update.

Journals require ratings so that the content can be filtered as needed by the user viewing it. Our site utilizes a wide variety of rating and filtering tools on all content in order for users to control what content they see. With this in place a user is able to discuss their thoughts and opinions more freely, while others are able to block the content if they wish.

We're still adjusting the site based on feedback so if you have any further comments please feel free to use our forums or email support@weasyl.com

This is actually really good and super awesome of you guys. There can be adult links in the journal, or, stuff relating to adult content can be mentioned (such as a particular business, whatever). Being able to filter those journals by rating is super handy (not that I've used it yet but I can see their uses).

The only bit of criticism I have is that it may get tiring for those who want to post journals frequently only to have to select the "General" rating each and every time. It'd be super handy if a user could select a "default rating" option in their user options/profile/whatever so that when they next decide to post a journal it already has an age rating selected, streamlining the process.

Either way, I definitely don't want to see this feature removed as it is very important.
