Ohhhh booooy FA. by Centradragon

Weasyl sure is looking a lot more attractive after her older sister decided to sell out to IMVU. Hmmm. scratches chin

I'm gonna try my best to be more active on here! :) I'll have to figure out some incentives for stragglers on FA to encourage them to come over without just outright stopping posting there.

Andddd super-curious: are any of you still hanging onto FA, or have you already jumped ship?

Ohhhh booooy FA.

Personally, I prefer FA, but it is gettin a lil funky over there.

    • Link

Just a bit, haha! I like the community on FA (and there's a ton of people on there) but I think IMVU will start to scare more people away.

      • Link

        Agreed, although I really dislike the lack of community interaction on this site in particular ^^;

        • Link

It is also a matter of how many people you talk to here vs on FA? (Just saying bc there is a lot of community interaction over here too! :3)

  • Link

Personally, I only check FA for the artists that are not using Weasyl yet. For the artists who are on both, I +fav their works on Weasyl and follow them here. I've stopped posting my art on FA altogether and have removed my past submissions from the gallery (I wasn't comfortable leaving my work there).

    • Link

Sounds like a pain having to use both, but I might have to do a similar thing. :B

Why didn't you feel comfortable leaving your art there? IMVU, or just other shenanigans?

      • Link

Mostly IMVU yes, not knowing for certain what will happen to FA, being afraid of my art being appropriated/misused (I know, it may sound a little paranoid). Also not wanting people to keep +faving my work on an account that I consider basically dead/ghost account.

And yeah, I have to check both sites for now :/ but really keeping my activity on FA to the minimum, because I don't want to support the site. It doesn't take too much time going through my watches there though, fortunately (everybody I could watch on Weasyl, I've un-watched on FA).

  • Link

I removed a lot of old submissions. I haven't made any new art in a long time, so posting it is kind of a moot point. A while ago, though, I was posting cropped versions and linking to the weasyl upload. Lately, I just go there to empty out my inbox with the nuke button.

    • Link

That's not a bad idea! I might just try to post early to Weasyl and then post a link when I post it on FA. Cropped images might work too, but that might also just piss people off, haha! :D

      • Link

Yeah, I can see how it might irritate people, and posting on Weasyl early is a solution I have seen others using to good effect as well. So, shrugs it's really just what works for you.

  • Link

If ya wanna try something, I know a few folks who've been posting cropped work on FA with a link to the full on Weasyl to try to encourage folks to move over. x3

And I still use both primarily cuz a majority of artists are on FA still, but I tend to keep Weasyl more up to date inbox-wise and check for commissions here first. The business side of things is prolly a good reason some artists aren't moving yet. x.x

    • Link

That might work well, but I'm worried they might be upset over getting cropped work, rather than being able to see the full shebang. You know the internet, haha! Especially if a lot of people are still on there. :(

Double posting (or posting to Weasyl/tumblr early and FA gets things late), doesn't seem like as much of a penalty to people choosing to stay on FA.

      • Link

This is true and I think if you're using Google Chrome that someone made an app to help cross-posting as well? I'd have to look for it though.

      • Link

Yeah, when I left FA I did post a journal entry wondering if I should share cropped works with a link to the Weasyl submission, and someone posted to say "people should either leave entierely, or be prepared for a lot of drama if they try to only keep a reduced presence".

I felt anxious over it and decided against posting cropped art in the end. :/

      • Link

Post to Weasyl first, wait a week or two, then post to FA.

  • Link

I vastly prefer this site, but it's a bit of a challenge when I don't even have a tiny fraction of the audience here. :(

    • Link

The site IS really nice. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I come on here. Hopefully more people will transfer over!

      • Link

I'm sure they will as FA gets more.... interesting over time!

  • Link

I'm only watching and faving on FA now.

    • Link

Makes sense! Seems a lot of people still go on FA for one thing or another.

  • Link

Same thing Feral said, I wish more artists would cross-post to other sites, it really goes against my character to keep using FA.

  • Link

Fa is at the moment my only source of income, or I would just leave. I am cross-posting on other furry sites now and trying stop being independent on a sinking ship.

  • Link

While I prefer Weasyl as a site, the numbers are still on FA, so I continue to post art and journals and such over there. I wish I could just switch over here for good, but the lack of community and seemingly no buyers makes that a daunting hurdle.
Hopefully this IMVU crap will encourage more people to come over to Weasyl?

  • Link

I still have an FA only because my commissioners refuse to leave. Luckily, that seems to be changing. In the mean time I give my Weasyl and Tumblr followers a lot of exclusive benefits that FA doesn't get.

  • Link

I cross-post to weasyl but FA is still primary for me because of the larger audience there.

  • Link

Yeeeah FA right now is pretty cringy. Personally I still use it because there's where 90% of my business comes from and it's my only source of income right now. I would LOVE to drop FA like a hot potato and leave it steaming on the ground.

  • Link

My incentive was to keep posting to FA for a while, but with really low-res versions of art and then linking here.
I also crosspost across like 4 gallery sites tho

I've no regrets abandining that place. Good riddance.

  • Link

I have kept quiet as a mouse over the last year or two regarding FA related drama but this is the nail on the camel's back.

Even though I use Adblock, I am still absolutely disgusted by what FA is turning into. Keep in mind that the only reason I am staying there is because that's where I get my commissions, but if I had it my way I would have completely jumped ship much sooner.

I have always liked Weasyl and its layout much more than FA ever since its inception. After the latest batch of "updates" from what should now be called "Ad-Affinity", I am going to slowly start to transition over to here as much as I can. I cannot 100% give up FA but I am already planning on being more active here and possibly making some Weasyl only art submissions. It's hard because it look a long time to build up my following on FA, and I barely have a following over here, so I'm going to have to figure something out. Because I don't draw porn it's hard for me to attract people to my art.

  • Link

I jumped ship completely over the drama with Zaush. A decision I don't regret one single teeny tiny bit. I checked fA regularly still and still comment and fave. but what used to be daily is maybe once a week now. I don't miss that site one bit.

  • Link

I did the same as Reisfuchs. I only check it once a month or so or if someone links me to a picture on fa. I've unwatched everyone on there who also has an account here (and watched them here), and I removed all my adult pictures from fa. Every once in a while I'll post a journal over there about having moved to weasyl, since for some reason I'm still getting new watchers even though I haven't posted anything in like two years.

  • Link

I want to jump ship so bad, but sadly, that is where I am most popular. Some of my followers there do follow me on here, but most of my customer base runs on FA :c. Hopefully people will start realizing how shit FA is (and becoming) and jump ship for Weasyl

  • Link

Haven't used FA in years and never will again! https://www.weasyl.com/journal/69579 this journal has great ideas for jumping that sinking ship.

  • Link

I'm still there, mostly because there is still very little activity here and I have over three and a half more followers on FA than I do here - which tells me my audience is still on FA.
There are still some things about Weasyl that I don't really like...at one point it felt so overly fetish-y that I had to apply over 18 filters so I could browse the art easier. On FA I watch enough artists that I don't browse the front page anymore - I just favorite surf, which is really hard to do here. The other thing that bothered me for a while was the thumbnail cropping and how no-one knew how to use it. I'm still not a huge fan of it, but I think people are realizing to not crop in so dang far now.

  • Link

I'm still over on FA since it's going to be extremely difficult to
move away from where all my commissioners are. Like.. Owch.
FRom 1000 watchers to 66. Weasyl will be my Back up art site, though.
I'm going to be a LOT more active on here now that I figured how
to make a SCRAPS folder to keep my gallery clean....

I still don't like Weasyl's search system, but all I can do is try to talk to admins about improving it.
(Or hoping that they improve it one day.)

  • Link

Jumped ship ages ago. I'm on there to keep following artists I admire but other than posting advertisements for adoptables or streams, I'm not active at all.

  • Link

I jumped ship after the Zaush fiasco and only skulked around a bit now and again, laughed and ate popcorn while watching the Starrykitten/Zidonuke drama, and have since made a home here on Weasyl permanently. I don't understand what people don't like about this site. It's straight forward, and nice to look at. You wanna submit something? Journals, art, etc. Hit the 'submit' button. Browse, Forums, Help and Search are all up there at the top as well and work amazingly..

My main complaint with Weasyl, is it's rating system. It is a bit clunky and takes some getting used too, and when ya do, it's easy to understand and follow. And if you happen to miss label something, the mod's change it to the proper tag and inform you of the change and why it happened. (or at least they did with me)
Another issue I have is with the use of markdown. After using html and all that shit for ages, it's taking a bit longer than i would have liked to learn a new system... It's a minor convenience in all honesty, as they provide a direct link to the page with the markdown codes the site uses.

    clears throat and steps off his soap box <.<;

That all said, I hope you find Weasyl to be a nice place to set up shop on a more active basis. D: Best of luck!

  • Link

Just tell them "Check out my Weasyl page! Now with 98% less IMVU ads!"

  • Link

Glad to have you more active here! :D
Can't wait to see your art in my inbox!

  • Link

Jumped ship ages ago! I'd love to see more of your work posted here! <3

  • Link

Sadly people still stay because of the userbase/financial dependance on commissions T_T

  • Link

This is going to sound weird, but I'm kind of afraid to leave FA entirely? My deviantart and tumblr bases have built up since switching to the LGT name several years ago (finally!), but to this day I get extraordinarily little business from them and all of my rarely- gotten work comes from FA. I'm not hanging in there for the watches or favorites, I'm hanging because I am very afraid of cutting off my 0-3 times a month income. My art wasn't intended to be any kind of business, but it's like a gasp of air while drowning some months. I don't really recognize what drives people to buy art because it does not seem to be wholly based in "I like this artist". I was shocked when I sold something respectable in the FWA art show. If I could figure that out and receive work through Weasyl, DA, and tumblr then I'd be dropping FA like a hot potato.

  • Link

I'm still waiting for weasyl to implement larger thumbnails and non-cropped ones. :| It really makes browsing weasyl a pain.

  • Link

I've seen artists do cropped work or also do single lump posts of one type of work (kinda like a better organized sketch dump or pricing sheet), so they don't get the "cropped" experience, but they don't get a larger view.

I was going to start using FA, but then IMVU stuff happened. Now I mostly use my FA to talk to people that aren't active on Weasyl, and I'm going to try the lumped post thing.

  • Link

I made both a FA and Weasyl when I kinda started posting outside DA (because I'm really just not a fan, I need to get it set up again to be kinda just a dump page but w.e) but the IMVU nonsense is really a putoff- I still have an FA, and post to it; but anymore Weasyl seems a lot more... professional? if not slower. I always feel bad because I don't really give the page as much love but at the very least there's a lot less sketchy 'business' practices.

  • Link

Still have FA going, but I'm getting a little less active. Kind of just waiting for it to finally push the rest of it's user base over here, but it's still got a pretty strong community in the meantime, soo...
