Since I started this off with George Orwell's 1984, I decided that the next book suggestion would be his earlier book Animal Farm. After reading(listening to) it, you can see some of the evolution of his writing style and methods. According to Orwell, the book reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalin era in the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union, he believed, had become a brutal dictatorship, built upon a cult of personality and enforced by a reign of terror. And today still serves as a lesson for today.
