I think I need a 'sona'. by FeyPhoenix
I have characters. I have a lot of characters. I have a lot of headworlds, too. Some I talk about, others are just little blips in my own mind.
But I don't really have a 'sona that I can say is really like me totally. Most of my characters have some little piece of me in them, since they did come from my mind, but none that I fully mesh with. :x
Does anyone have a suggestion? Or what do you see me as? I'm not looking for a specific thing, so anything from mythical to mundane to monstrous, if that's what you see :B
Seems silly to ask other people, but I think if I get some ideas, I'll be able to find something for myself a bit easier

Well, that's pretty much what I did with Rêve... but I can't claim to be like him so much anymore, especially with his canon now. He evolved a lot and I pretty much stayed the same :B

Your 'sona could be anything. I typically go with the character I have which is the most similar to me. If you don't have one you can always make one. c:

I never really had one that stuck, I think because I just can't connect me with a fictionalized version of myself, and have further trouble figuring out what exactly it's supposed to do interacting with other fictionalized selves, which all operate under different and uniquely personal rules. Feeling you are supposed to have a persona may just be part of the whole community, rather than an intrinsic need. If nothing really clicks, I'd say don't worry about it.

I tend to struggle with whether I should make it look like myself or look like what I want to look like. But given I was trying to be more body positive, I was thinking something closer to myself... but I really don't like what I look like :I which is rather contradictory to the very idea.
As for feeling pressure from the community, I really don't feel that is the case here. I have always really wanted to have an online representation of myself, but the aforementioned struggle has been hindering me. And as far as interacting with others, the main point would be that it shouldn't be any different, since it is supposed to be 'me' x3-
Something I do with the whole "don't like how my body looks" vs "want something that is me" when I have been doing portraits is I try to make the physique closely resemble my own, but add symbolic elements of how I feel. You could also try something like Farore does, with a sort of appropriate core body that is in some way able to be modified to better suit specific moods.

Bunny rabbit. They have sex appeal, can be dominant or submissive, powerful or weak. They're culturally diverse, and they're fairly uncommon at the moment. You'll find tons of wolves, foxes, horses, or some kind of fursona that has a murr knot. Of course, there's always making your own specie.

I just cartoon myself in a way that gets across a lot of traits about me in nice visual shorthand. I love animals being used to build characters because you can get across a lot of information about that person/character very quickly via this shorthand.
I "chose" a tiger a long time ago because they were my favorite, but it's become a more appropriate choice with time. I'm very small and so is my caricatured self, but the species choice gets across the "dynamite comes in small packages" concept of me nicely. Being gray makes her a self conscious stand-out (my life experience), and most of the other design choices come from my real life taste.
That said you don't have to make a 'sona to directly represent you as you are. I cartoon myself as other animals when it's funny or appropriate. I also have another character who's a good representative of a big part of my personality that might not be apparent to a stranger meeting me for the first time.
Don't sweat the popularity of a given species unless choosing an uncommon thing is important to you. Good choices and good design stand tall regardless of subject.

The popular species tend to have a more well known attributes, but then again, no animal is the same, just as no human is. I'm putting some thought into it.

Hmm well I only really know you in passing, so my opinion doesn't really count, but I could see you being a very sassy sort of animal hybrid. Something observant and intelligent perhaps? Probably wingless or with sheer light wings- nothing overpowering. :) It probably doesn't help much haha, sorry
I know I really struggled to find something that i felt fit me. I ended up doing a sort of mixture between what I like, and what I felt represented me. Like my Goat Cougar hybrid has my body proportions and personality. And Goats are my favorite animal, but my attitude has always been rather feline in nature, so I picked one of my favorite felines to hybridize with that. No wings, because I hate heights lol. Hooves over paws because I just adore them. And so on in that manner until I had a character I was really happy with :)
In the end, your sona is what you want it to be. :D And that's the best part!

That's a good idea. Maybe I can just go through and start picking pieces of stuff and mashing them together to see what it becomes xD...
I might try it, at the very least.

I know one of Vernon commissioners uses a truscan. And my sonas are hybrids cause I couldn't make up my mind. Note is: don't limit yoursself dear, you don't have to pick just one! 83
That being said I used my favorite animals, cause I wasn't sure what best represented me. Maybe you should take the same path?
