I doubt this solution will become commercially available any time soon but damn, that's cool!
So the term biohacker has finally gotten into mainstream media... That's an incredibly risky stuff.
Hacking a computer system - well, worst thing you can do, is to make cars and airplanes crash, and shut down the global communication system. Still, it's not the end of the world.
But making a perfect virus, that's like, a hack to end all hacks.
Risky, yeah, but it was inevitable that biological research would move toward augmenting the senses considering how technology has been focused obsessively on making the rather dull senses of a human being sharper. I like the idea of being able to use temporary tweaks like this and I think if it proves safe enough the potential applications are astonishing.
Totally agreed on the perfect virus though. That's a terrifying idea. Whoever creates that must either create the perfect antidote or have such a profound hatred of everyone that they don't care if they kill themselves and everyone they ever knew. A virus with the lethality and misery of ebola, the airborne infectiousness of influenza, and the long incubation time of HIV to maximize the number of people infected before they realize they're sick, could potentially kill a billion people.
