Leathercraft Ideas! by KajTaotsu

First and foremost, reason being that this is 13+ is because of the chance that more 'adult/mature' ideas are brought up since you know, it's leatherwork.

ANYWAYS!
I'm needing some ideas for brainstorming items and such that I could possibly try my hands at for the leather craft. I've got a small amount of tools and pieces I can work with to get started, but would like some sort of list of things to set goals and try to make over time!

So far, I've got a couple steampunk-related items that would hold small bottles and test tube vials, plus I was able to draw out a design for a collar that would look really pretty and if I can get a set of cuffs to go with it, would make an awesome set together. I'm so used to seeing the plain-jane cuffs and collars, that I want to bring some sort of elegance or class to it.

  • bottle straps
  • test tube holders
  • collar & cuffs, leash (?)
  • wallet

If you have ever watched 'Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves' the moor in the movie uses a spry glass made of two polished glass lenses and a fitted piece of leather...now that would be a challenge but interesting to make. You could make custom collars for pets (not naughty pets necessarily but real pets like dogs etc) and harnesses for animals like dogs, cats, ferrets, rabbits and other ones etc. Custom drink holders which are basically a cylinder with an end and shoulder strap, key rings - plain or themed, custom coasters with paw prints or characters on them. I have a small table with a leather chess board that you could in theory make one up. A variety of coin purses, sun glasses case or spectacle cases, tissue box cover, book covers for journals, sketch pads etc, belts, Arm bands, wrist supports, thigh straps, anklets, bracelets and leather rings. I've seen leather bins, holders for folders, tool belts, tool wraps and card containers. Enough from me. hugs

Wow this is quite a bit to think about, thank you!
Ill have to look into that spyglass, havent seen the movie I think. As for the collars and harness, I was actually wanting to do them for both human and animal. The drink holder could be cool, make some for wine bottles would be bedt bet since theyre normally the same size/shape. Key rings would be good for the smaller leftover bits. Cup coasters would be really cool to make, didnt even think about that! I think ive seen an image of something like that table, itd definitely be something for later on. Coin purses and pouches would be good to practice sewing. Gauntlets, wristbands and such are plausible for sure. Gosh theres a lot I didnt think about before!

Well when making that list I took into account a vast array of skills to apply. You can use stamping and semi-cutting for decoration, you can use wood burning techniques for decoration (I used to use a soldering iron to brand pictures onto wood and leather) You have the application of studs and hardware, cutting, sewing and shaping as well as flat and three dimensional projects. You can even make toys if you use a soft leather or leatherette. Sounds like you're going to have fun. hugs
