That chat site buying that furry art site... by TwitchDaWoof

I've been set up on here for awhile, and seeing that people are AGAIN thinking about jumping ship, hi!

Someone asked me the question on ask.fm what I thought about IMVU buying FA, and it's every reason why I set up accounts on here and SoFurry awhile ago:

Yeah, I'm figuring the splintering of the fandom is coming. Going it make it harder for people of niche ideas to find others of the same interest.

It's already happened, just getting more and more splintered as the fandom grows. Best example is how big the anime fandom is, furry will be like that eventually. Already seen that with conventions, used to see furs from all over the world at like AC 2003-06, then west coast cons and european cons popped up, and were actually freaking amazing, which turns into why spend all that money traveling to other cons when you have 2-3 awesome cons in your back yard?

I remember flying to FC '04-'05 and knowing almost everyone with people excited to meet me and seeing me on the west coast, flying to FC a couple years ago and RF? Completely different world where hardly anyone knew who Twitch was. It was like fursuiting as Twitch for the first time again, while was awesome and a ton of fun to do, really put things into perspective for me as far as how big and splintered the fandom has become.

Yeah, I guess we'll see how things go. I'm just flustered with some of the attitudes people are displaying about this

I don't even get upset at attitudes. It happens on every major furry bomb. I just have my opinion and leave it at that.

I somehow doubt that IMVU will make FA ban porn.

It'll just have people pay to see it =P

Well said and I wasn't aware there were other sites out there yet I did hear of VCL and SoFurry.

Yeah, I remember doing the progression from DeviantArt to SheezyArt to FA. That said, I've also been a SoFurry user since its launch (as Yiffstar) back in 2002, since it was, and still is, the only furry story site that doesn't suck.

While I doubt IMVU will ban adult content outright, I do predict they'll start charging for access to adult content (like they do on their own site), and that will push folks to use the other sites. Will it splinter the community? Not anymore than it is already. Most of us already have accounts on the other sites, and a lot of artists already cross-post their content across at least a couple sites- we have FA's sketchy reliability to thank for that.

We'll see what happens, but I'm not too worried. ^..^

    Well said, dude.

I'm indifferent about it... i just see it as "WHOA GUYS stop the presses. another group of furries not happy with other furries!". its dragonners site. he doesn't need our permission to sell it.

    • Link

This exactly. I had someone reply to my Twitter saying it was a moral obligation to let another furry run it. It's that kind of entitled attitude that would have sent me to sell the thing if I owned it too. Dragoneer owes nobody a damn thing after running that site and taking so much shit for it.

Got to love how self centered people can be. Above all i think a lot of people owe Dragoneer considering all the shit hes had to put up with. He can't even make a change to his website without the whinny, bitchy, overly sensitive locusts raining down upon him. That is probably why he didn't really want to say anything, that is probably why the site hasn't moved all that much for the past few years. Oh well haters gonna hate. For a community that is "all loving and accepting" we sure are full of hate and drama. Ok I'm done bitching. Ahahahaha ~The Furry Paradox
