For a long time I've kept a strict no deadlines policy regarding comics and other B.I.B.L.E. stuff out of concern for my mental health. But I don't work well without deadlines, never have, and it has made me incredibly lazy and unfocused. I'm tired of it and I think it's about time I tried to wean off that policy. I'm pretty stable at the moment anyway. I didn't have a single depressive episode in all of February even though I was super stressed out for most of the month.
I decided to do an experiment this week and see whether it's physically possible for me to finish a whole Rebound page. A whole Rebound page before next Monday. I wouldn't get my hopes up, there's like a 5% chance I'll make it, but that's not the point. The point is to see how far I can get and whether I can convince myself to try and keep that deadline even though there isn't some immediate threat hanging over my head if I don't.
Meh, I have a bit of a head start too since I started sketching this page a long time ago and now the sketch is already finished.
I'd like to recreate a routine for myself that can ideally result in something resembling a regular update schedule. Whether that schedule can be bi-weekly, or monthly, or whatever, I can't say, but that's what I'll try to find out.
I'd also like to push myself just enough to relearn how to be sloppy. Knowing how and when to be sloppy when making comics is importaaaannnt.
I'm mostly writing this journal to hold myself up on this, but let me hear: What do you do to keep yourself focused? Give me your best tip :)
Hm, mostly what I do to manage and focus is have some music going but usually ones without vocals except a couple to keep it from distracting me too much. And having something nice to drink and nibble on if needing to D: Usually if its something for anybody else my eagerness to get it to them as fast as possible and have fun with it takes over but have to remember to do it good too not just soon.
Do you think you'd be able to work up to a bit of a buffer maybe? like thumbnailing a bit ahead, see the average amount of time it takes to make a page and work around that so you have a bit of a queue if one takes longer for whatever reason. I've seen it help people a lot sometimes but you probably just need to find out what works for you?
I'd like to make a buffer because everything is usually faster for me when I use the "assembly line method" and do everything in bulks. But I keep running into the same problem - It takes me so long to progress on one page that I end up panicking about it taking too long and conclude that I better finish that page instead.

I used a strict deadline policy when I was doing commissions. If I didn't get the work done on time, I wouldn't get paid. I found that adding that stress really helped focus me and drive me to get the work done. Had I not been forced out of creative work, I'd've done similar things on Patreon - if I didn't make my deadline time, I'd not have uploaded the item as paid.
