RPing through email or Forums? by VenomousSoliloquy
How do most of you guys feel about such things?
Admittedly, it's the only way I really RP because I don't have a lot of time.
(well if there were a forum I'd probably do forum RP too)
And also because of bad experiences in the past with IM RPs.
People I've RPed with in the past tend to be up my ass for RP when it's done on IMs.
And because I'm a slow poster and always will be, they get irritated as well.
So, any more I have to take avenues that allow me to RP slowly. Where I can post once a week
or once a day, or what have you, and so can my partner, and there's no pressure on either of us.
But I'm curious how some people feel about this. lol
I'd be more open to RPing with more people if they were down with the idea.
But most people seem to prefer IM RP. And sadly... I'm just not focused enough to do that any more. :/

That does make sense, and I totally understand it. I'd still RP in IMs if not for the fact that people tend to get up my ass about 'being slow'.
Or don't want to be my friend/converse about life/etc. Just want to RP all the time. Thing with me RPing all the time is that I get burnt out.
And stressed out too. lol So no bueno.I kind of miss RPing on AIM though. I used to, years ago.

Omg That use to happen to me too! Dx I sometimes just want to chat as well now. I mean back in the day I liked to rp more than just chat(cause I wanted to leave rl life) but now I rather chat more. lol
I totally get the burnt out thing. Just need a break sometimes.AIM to me is just easier and simple. Like I have an older version of aim and people can't just suddenly try calling me. I am anti-skype. XD

I've RP'd in person, IM, forums, and emails. The last few years, forum and emails have taken precedence since it works better around life in general. And while I do enjoy IM for the immediacy, it can be a pain in the ass when you have someone that's impatient.

I admit, I've never RPed in person. Haha. Thinking about it makes me somewhat anxious.
Though I think it's pretty cool, for those that are able to do it. C:And, yes, about the forum and emails bit. It does work around life better.
And that's mostly why I like employing it. I'm busy pretty much constantly.
So I need something that doesn't fill up all my time like IMs do.And yeah. :T The amount of impatient/pushy partners I've had is atrocious. Totally takes the fun out of the game.

In person can be hit or miss. My first group, we were a bunch of goofs playing Vampire: The Masquarade. So when I accidentally dropped a burning car on the team leader, we were too busy laughing and trash talking each other to take it seriously.
On the flip side, had another group that was a Star Wars RP, and sweet crying Christ. Humorless rules-lawyers and min/maxers. I left after the second or third meeting, because it just wasn't fun.
I'm actually doing an WoW-based RP with a friend, forum/email style, and we're both taking our time and just enjoying it. Patience for the win!

I usually RP through IM, admittedly, but doing so through a forum or email is starting to sound more and more appealing...if only because it might actually take up quite a bit less of my TIME... e_e

Hahaha. That was part of why I started going by email and forum. Because, IM RPs took up all my time.
I literally wasn't able to draw or anything between posts. Because I posted slow... and my partners posted fast. :T
And I've got a fairly busy life now. Always up to something. So the laid-back bit of emails/forums is nice.-
The biggest problem I have going by email or forum is remembering to post! XD I should really make an effort at it, though. It would probably make my life much, much easier...

I rp on google docs. That way it's easy to keep records without having to keep going through old emails and whatnot. Really only works for one-on-one, or maybe 3 players max. When I'm done posting I just shoot my partners a text/Skype/Facebook message letting them know. (It also looks more official if you need to pretend you're doing homework or paperwork or something lol)
Granted I'm one of those people that goes back and forth with rapid-fire responses and I don't like waiting XD But I don't see why the method couldn't work for slower posters too

Huh... That's really intriguing, actually. And definitely a way to keep everything in one place, plus... yeah look professional. lol
And then you don't have to personally make a document on your computer that is yours and your partner(s) combined.I actually understand people not being able to wait. But my partnership with such people tends to... not work so well.
All I end up feeling is guilty, anxious, and stressed. lol And then RPing isn't fun at all.I'll have to keep google docs in mind.

Hahah yeah no I totally understand. I'm the same way about other aspects of rping so I get it.
But yeah it's pretty fantastic. We usually stop around page 50 and start a new doc, otherwise it takes forever to load, especially on a mobile device. I just make a folder for the rp and title each doc "Part 01, Part 02" etc etc so it automatically keeps them in order. Also you can insert page numbers to keep track of when you need a new doc lol

Ahaha. I can feel you there. Lately I've only done email, because I don't know where to go for RP forums... but... eh.
I'm not really looking for any particular kind of RP. Just want more partners, I suppose.In the past I've done real world (with humans) RP, real world fantasy. Plain out fantasy with elves or demons or angels.
I've done stuff with Kemonomimis... And I think I've done a few anthro RPs in the past too. I'm generally open to anything.
Within reason... I've even done fandom RPing... lolI don't even have a serious preference on the coupling. I've RPed M/M (well that's usually what I RP anyway), F/F and M/F. Soooo
I guess I technically prefer M/M RP, just because it's comfortable for me. But I like it all. And doing M/F RP is fun... especially if I'm playing the male. lulz-
yeah, generally we don't post links to our RPs unless we know the person or they ask if they can join sort of thing... we have extensive story stuff all fleshed out so finding someone who actually wants to come into the world knowing what they're doing is.. difficult, to say the least xD
ours is a Kemi one, occasionally they return to feral form but for the most part their humanoid xD I could link you to the forum if you want to take a look at it :3 I know Rae has been itching to get a partner aside from me that is at least willing to post once or twice a day. (its hard for me to post all the time cause i have such a backlog of commissions |D; and the other girl whose supposed to be RPing with Rae just doesn't post for over a week at a time)
AS FOR COUPLES we have a few of all of the above XDDD
we're totally open to whatever. got a few m/m at least one f/f, a dozen m/f
we even have a herm/ m pairing. XD

I find rping through google.doc or ims like LINE or something like to be easier because emails can get lost for me very easily.
I used to be a active forum poster on roliana(sites like that) but recently been falling out of it because the characters are not close to me so I have tno reason to continue it.If I like the person or know the well then I can rp with them anywhere, but im or LINE where you can make group chats make it easier to keep track of the last replies.

I rp through aim. I am super oldschool. XD I use to rp through email with people who were like you. Who did not really have the time to reply right away. Just what would end up happening with me... I'd lose interest in the rp. A week would go buy and my heart in the moment of the story would be gone. Could be my ADD.
