      It's not about not eating animals. It's about being against the inhumane treatment of those animals that we eat as a society. For anyone who's paying attention, no one is saying we suddenly have to all be vegans...

        Well... veganism is about saying humans do not have a right to nonhuman lives. Period. So I'm saying people should be if they are capable though.

      The vast majority of crops planted are fed to meat animals, so this is blatantly false.

        At least crops taking up mass amounts of land, ie, soy and corn. I live in a place with soy fields. They are vast and full of GM crops and the run off causes mass fish kills and pollutes waterways.

          Additionally, the number one cause of deforestation in Brazil and many other South American countries is the beef industry. The number one use of BLM-owned land in the southwestern US, rather than wildlife preservation and management, as it should be, is beef cattle grazing. Thus the whole Bundy Ranch debacle.

            ALSO this is a good reason to start discussions of vertical and urban and sustainable gardening as well as silvaculture and other forms of permaculture... not a valid reason to dismiss veganism as a philosophy and set of morals.
