Who wants to buy a PC for me? 8) by chutkat

I want this one please: http://pcel.com/computadoras/pc-desktops-escritorio-all-in-one/DELL-X8700_I7G162T_BW8S_5-110758 I will pay you with arts! xD!!~

Jokes aside...
Ugh, either the guys at the repair shop don't know what they are doing or my Laptop is doomed.
My laptop is not too old, 4 years old? 4GB Intel core Quad, windows 64 Bit, Nvidia Geforce GT 240M video card, when I got it, 2 years ago it was the most amazing experience ever.
Because I went from a Pentium D with 3 GB (after I had been using it with 1GB for about 4 years as well) to this one. It felt like earth to heaven, haha~
That pc still works, but even my laptop has troubles with some of my more rendered illustrations, it was nearly impossible to work on my desktop without photoshop crashing from time to time. :B
Also my old desktop has a shitty display when I connect it to my large monitor. ;;

Now that desktop belongs to my dad, because he's a newbie with PCs and windows XP is really good for handling newbies .3.

I don't want to replace my laptop. Does anyone knows what could be causing the shut downs?
I bought a triple cooling fan and also I have a Temperature software meter because I was worried my laptop would turn off due to the high heat on the GPU. But now that the laptop's fan is working properly again, it's not getting an overheat, which caused the previous shutdowns.

This time, I don't know what happened, I was working as usual (before the hard drive change) and it shut down out of nowhere.
This never happened before, so I am worried. I am used to save my files each minute or so, but I am worried these common shutdowns will make my files corrupted and later on unusable, which would be super lame.

u_u A hard beginning of the year, yet I am trying to stay cheerful! GO LAPTOP GO

Wait was is the price USD? It says 18k when I open it o_O

    • Link

      It's around $1200 USD
      It's Mexican pesos xD
It's one of the cheapest ones I have seen that are as good as that, but still more expensive than PCs in USA or Canada

      • Link

Can you buy one from the states and have it shipped?

        • Link

http://www.amazon.com/x2714-Dell-SuperSpeed-Gaming-Desktop/dp/B00LDDMHUO <--- Amazon is $1300, but I think you get a measly $40 giftcard with it if you get an Amazon card. Only place cheaper is eBay which could be risky :/

          • Link

It's about the same price as here, without the customs fee xD
And sometimes amazon doesn't ship to mexico certain things :<

            I wanted to buy over the garden wall.... but it's only USA streaming ;A;

        • Link

Sadly customs likes to charge super expensive amounts to introduce electronics to the countries. :P
          And it's always a random number >__<

          • Link

Oh man - I didn't know about all that. I'm sorry - I' haven't had much experience with customs. Over the Garden Wall looks delightful!

            • Link

I've got a few things, like my laptop, and a 3ds, the fees for them were not so bad because they were marked as cheaper products, but I still wasn't prepaired. :S

Yess you should watch it, it's a gorgeous short series!

          • Link

Sabes, si en algún momento quieres comprar algo en USA, lo puedes enviar a mi casa, yo puedo viajar a Mexico y enviarlo por el correo alla. Especialmente con electrónicos, muchas veces vale la pena cruzar la frontera.

            • Link

              D:!
Es en serio? No seria mucha molestia?

              • Link

Si me dices con antelacion, no, porque yo bajo para Mexico como quiera X3

                • Link

D: seria fabuloso me ahorraria bastante xDD

  • Link

I was surprised about the price, too. xD

Unfortunately I have no idea what causes the trouble. Shutdowns out of the blue can have many problems. 4 years seem to be not so old but mine was in an even worse state after using it daily for around 3 years. They aren't made for use as main PC but for business travels, student day work and so on. Additionally they have to be slim and not too heavy and all that, which means many parts which are seperated on a tower PC are made onboard (= included in the motherboard) and can't be exchanged or repaired easily.
First suggestion: Find a better repair service; maybe one wich is specialized for Laptops and portable computers.
Second suggestion: Buy you a large PC anyway for daily use to get your Laptop some Rest.

    • Link

      I take care of my laptop so much ;;
at least more than many of my friends who keep their laptops on for weeks with the lid down....
I clean it each day and sing lullabys for its better rest. :>
      XD

      ;;
Yah I'll see where I can take it.. everyone seems kind of fishy /wants to make you spend.
I really hope it's not the motherboard.

"Buy you a large PC anyway for daily use to get your Laptop some Rest."
If I didn't just spend $300+ on the new hard drive and battery this could have been my first option D:

Do you get blue screen before it shuts down?
Maybe it's because of viruses or incompatible hardware...
And I remember that motherboards of any laptop die quite suddenly.xD

    • Link

Nopies, no blue screen, just shuts down.
I doubt it has a virus, I have a decent antivirus + I rarely download stuff from unknown sources, everything is also scanned with the antivirus.

Could be the incompatible hardware, but I don't reallly know :<

      • Link

It's about 80-90% now that the reason is incompatible hardware. And about 10% is slowly dying motherboard.

        • Link

I hope so! Let me see if I can find someone who knows about laptops that can take a look at my laptop!

  • Link

If it's a software problem, you might try opening your task manager to see how much of your ram it uses. What operating system does it use?

    • Link

Well, usually when it's on or past 70% of ram, I close something, but it never shut down like this with the old hard drive D:
My os is Windows 7 Home edition 64 Bits
Never on its busiest moments it shut down before That's why I am worried :/

      • Link

Do you have something specific running each time it shuts down, for example if it ran fine until _____ was running? Or maybe it's something that recently updated? I can't say for certain unless I can see some things. I also have no skill in checking hardware, so if it's that, I can't help.

        • Link

hm nope, it happens at different times when I am doing different things. Like mozilla + photoshop, Google chrome + Sai, or just mozilla etc.
I guess the only thing in common would be uh having the cooling fans on?

          • Link

I had another thought: When was the last time you defragmented your hard drive? It may be from all the data being all over.

            • Link

Well on my previous hard drive I did it often after I sent the files to my external hard drive.
But this new drive is basically new. They didn't clone my other drive's data, they just moved the files so it's basically a new pc.
It's not even a week old since I got it back. Do you think I should defragment the disk anyways?

              • Link

Well, not a licensed repair person, but I can try. Did all the files/programs get installed on, or were they moved?
Also, your cpu statistics are okay? It may be a little hardship on that.

                • Link

The files were moved, just like, documents, psd,s etc. But I installed all the programs all over again.
I even lost my brush stuff xD

Where do I check the cpu statics?
                  In system or somewhere else?

                  • Link

This might be easier in a messenger environment if you like, but the cpu things are next to ram in the task manager. It might also be bad sectors of ram.

  • Link

Have you looked at lenovo computers? They are supposed to have really great quality and funtional property's for a bit lower cost. My freinds and really heavy gamers and graphics program users and highly recommended lenovo to me for graphics programs and such.

    • Link

They seem to have a nice price indeed! But they don't have the specs I am looking for >__<
At least the ones that I can see on the shops at my city.
      I'll keep looking though! :D

      • Link

Look on thier website, I ordered direct from them and my friend got a pretty nice custom built one.

        • Link

Oh sweet potatoes! I will totally look :D
          Thanks for the tip!

          • Link

            no prob!

  • Link

      ;;

      • Link

              Y no tengo tiempo para investigar por completo sobre eso, como para cerciorarme de que no vaya a da;ar algo o tener alguna falla ;;
