Quick question; hair or no? by Thaily

No sketches for this one, sorry :P

Quick poll if people could spare me the time to answer; do you prefer "human hair" on your anthros, or none at all on animals with no mane? For example I'd draw hair on a lion or horse, but not on a wolf or rat (unless it was for a commission/etc.). Do people prefer their wolves/etc. with a human-like hairdo or not?

Personally I kind of like the "smooth" look (just fur, no fancy hairdo) but I think I'm in the minority. What do you think?

Quick question; hair or no?

Most of my characters in the past haven't had different colored hair, but many of them had extended tufts or poofs of hair around their forehead. I suppose I don't have an actual preference for either.

I don't really care whether or not there's hair for most mammals.

I absolutely hate hair on reptiles, amphibians, insects, or fish, though. It just doesn't look right.

It'll be personal preference. As my "fursona" is feral, no "hair" other than natural fur. (noddle)

I prefer no "hair" on my characters that lack a mane of some sort. They have fur already!

It really depends on the character for me, and what sort of world they're from. If I'm playing with fantasy or sci-fi I'll probably put hair on my furry characters. Something that is more an alternate reality of the modern world I'm more likely to go hairless in favor of natural fur.

I also second RoyalPurple with refusing to put hair on reptiles, amphibian, insect or fish characters.

My anthros have the 'smooth' look unless they have manes for the most part. I prefer it that way!

I prefer human hair on mine, but my characters generally look very human overall, so they would look bald without it imo.

Hair: At least on my character, I consider it my mane feature.

Hair to some degree, usually, but I really only care when it comes to my characters. Other characters, it looks fine either way usually. Sometimes the hair color doesn't work with the rest of the character, but that's more of a color palette issue vs. hair or not.

    I prefer no human hair

No "hair." For me that ruins the purpose of an "anthro" character
I personally avoid anything that might bring them closer to being human-like, wether if it's physical or behavioural. Lions and horses are okay.

  • Link

I prefer neither and I use both on my characters.
Hair on non-mammals though? Looks mostly weird and out of place to me. Birds can get away with crest like hair, when they are well designed imo.

Generally no human-like hair. If it's a sort of "mane" that is all behind the ears and isn't a different color than the rest of the fur, then I can go with it, but putting a blonde wig on a fox just doesn't look right. Particularly since it's generally only ever on female characters.

A mix of both on them, seems more personal and intune for both sides

  • Link

For me it all depends on the character, though I'm more likely to give them humanish hair.

I tend to like long flowing shampoo commercial/heavy metal/Fabio hair on just about everything that supports it, regardless of gender of species (see also: my icon.) I will admit there are some very specific characters that don't wear the Jem and the Holograms look very well and would therefore probably be better off without it, but that is very rare. :P

Yes... no... it depends... idk... watermelons with a mohawk!
