Achievement Get: Higher Education! by KajTaotsu

It's a few days till christmas, exams are over, celebrations were had, and I can proudly say that I got my Associates of Culinary Arts!

Okay well....not physically, but like...supposedly/technically. I passed all my classes, this semester ended with 3 A's and 1 B, all were solid/high and my final GPA turned out to be something like 3.3 . I dont believe I get the physical document stating it until...may? Idk, community college is weird as heck.
All in all, Im excited to finally be done with school. 16 years of the stuff has taken its toll and I want to live a little! Yet even with being excited for all of this....I dont really know where to go or what to do now that Im done with what Ive become so used to doing for most of my existance. It's a strange feeling knowing I dont have to go to classes anymore for the rest of my life if I didnt want to. Im not completely free of bindings, but I have wiggle room now...and...idk. My mind is flying a mile a minute right now and I feel like Im just rambling along, sorry.

Expect to see a few new posts in the near future, both art-wise and food! Cant wait to share it all with you guys <3

So without further adeu, what's your favorite part of winter holiday meals? Any certain dish, snack, or even just the fact that there's so much leftovers that you've got meals galore for days on end?
Have to say, my favorite parts are three things: Deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, and of course mentioned above, leftovers. I could live off of deviled eggs if I had the choice, especially when made properly (may share my family's recipe for em if you'd like, tell me!). Also recently found just how easy it is to make cranberry sauce (dont worry, you'll be getting a recipe from me soon~) and then customize it a bit to add a touch of flare. But best thing for me is the leftovers and being able to make awesome sandwiches out of everything....just thinking about it all is making me hungry!

    Congrats !
No school is awesome, you'll get used to it fast :P
I certainly did hahahahaha, but that was a while ago lol.

Deviled eggs... what a name hahahaha, here they are just filled eggs (direct translation). I love them ~~~~
Potato salad, glögg, sauerkraut and blood sausage are the things I expect and love <3

I havent looked up where the name came from, but it may just be by how devilishly good they are~
Potato salad is something Im used to having during family reunions, but its always a fsvorite of mine either way. Idk how you make it, but ours usually deals with a lot of cream, onion, and savory goodness. Never head of glögg, what is that? Haven't relly had a chance to try/eat much sauerkraut, but I really should fix that. And Ive wanted to try blood sausage and blood pudding for quite some time after seeing and hearing about it, what a strange thing to make, least to us here in the US!

Glögg is nordic version of what is called mulled wine, at least Wikipedia told me so lol. Wine with herbs and stuff that's drank hot. I prefer non-alcoholic kinds though.
Sauerkraut has one problem though, it will make you cough from the other side, causing discomfort to others LOLOLOLOLOL
I think vast majority of the world thinks blood sausage is a weird thing. It may look somewhat odd and certainly sounds odd, but it is really tasty. It also goes excellently with jam/sauce made from these berries : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccinium_vitis-idaea

    Congratulations!!

My favorites about holidays are the comfort foods--mashed potatoes, stuffing, soups. Stuff like that. The desserts are also excellent, and honestly winter time has always struck me as the best time to make bread pudding and apple pie. I know apple pies are more of a fall thing, but my grandma always made them for Thanksgiving AND Christmas when she was alive.

With my mom having to go gluten free over the recent years due to reactions to the stuff, we had to change up our stuffing recipe. But oh lord the GF version we make is on par, if not better than any stuffing Ive had so far in my life. Probably is another recipe I should share here. Apple pie has been a favorite of my family since forever ago, my grandma and mom always made the best I'd ever had when I was a kid. They too would make it for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, honestly the menu for both holidays is usually about the same, but nobody here complains about it, as it's always good food!

Oh man, I would love to see a gluten free stuffing recipe. In the same vein (sorta) I've been trying to find a way to make my step-dad's less salty, but I don't think it's even possible to have stuffing that's not sodium city.

The difference in apple pie recipes were always so cool to me. My grandma on my mom's side and my grandma on my dad's make drastically different-tasting pies. One is more sweet than tart, one has crust that's more buttery than sugary, etc. I have the recipe for my dad's mom's, but not my mom's mom's (who is deceased). My mother has the recipe, but she does the thing where you don't actually measure anything, you just throw it together based on eyeballing, and it's in her memory, not on paper. She won't write it down until she makes it next time... which is a problem, because she's diabetic. So, as you can imagine, baking doesn't happen too much these days, if at all.
