A user on Lulz.net cracked FA's DDoS "protection".
It uses an obfuscation method from three years ago.

Yeah, I been coming across that DDOS protection thing for awhile.
Has it really gotten that bad that they had to resort to using a bot check to keep the site from DDOSing? You would think they would have gotten bored of it by now. Whoever is doing it must really hate the site.
And now, hilariously, they scrapped Project Phoenix. They're just plain incompetent.
To be truthful as much as I recognize that there are artists who use that website, the sooner it goes down and stays down, the sooner it's not the only place that everyone uses for their businesses, etc. It's like what deviantArt was - everyone used it because it was the only large art community at its time, even though it was terrible. I mean, sure, Weasyl has its flaws, but I'm 100% okay with them considering that FA has quite a few corrupt mods (that have their histories), badly written code and the inability to fund the purchases needed to keep the site running - without spending it on a hard drive that they never even used in the end.
Yeah.. It'll be sad to see it go in my opinion. It was my first furry site, where I first started posting my humble short stories. It has some sentimental value to it, ya know?
But like you said, it probably won't last forever. Sooner or later, it'll wither and die like many other decent places before it. Hopefully when that happens, places like Weasyl will be able to fill the gap.
And of course, let's hope that Weasyl keeps his dignity as well. It is going smoothly now, but ya never know. Maybe the infamous rapist from FA might find a modding job here someday, or someone worse comes along and turns a happy community into a mess. Life is funny like that.
