A short rant and story ...
This past weekend while I was at work my girlfriend was taking care of business at home. She had heard a suspicious popping noise outside but hadn't gone to check on it. It being late at night and her being alone you could understand why.
We didn't know what the sound had been till yesterday.
In front of our small 4 building apartment complex is a cluster of tin mailboxes. The two end mailboxes had been beaten in with either a bat or something similar. There is no one with a vendetta against us that I know of and only a couple people even know where our house is. Besides, this was clearly done at random since they just picked the most easily reached mailboxes.
So now I have a half beaten, lopsided, hard to open mailbox. It's people like this who encourage me to remain so elusive in the real world. Why would you decide to make someone else's lives a little more difficult? For what? A few moment of amusement? Or are you just that mean spirited or miserable you have to share your misery with someone else?
This also happened in my town. Basically some teens would go in a truck and start whacking down mailboxes with a bat. It's a very common "prank" and especially happens around Halloween. The fact that it happened now is kind of.. off. But it's probably nothing personal against you, just a couple of assholes vandalizing the town. :/
My roommate is actually friends with people who think this is funny (suffice to say I have absolutely no patience for these people). It's the same mentality of people that see a brand new car and scratch it up. Some people just have no concept of what respect is, or empathy for that matter, and they mistake destruction and being an asshole for creativity and entertainment :\
Asking why when there's no real answer is a huge setup for some disappointment in life. It's just one of those moments there to remind you people are stupid dicks from time to time. :I
My "why would you do this" list has gotten so long it's a joke. :x

Ouch. We've had mailbox vandals out here before. Wound up planting it back in the ground with cement.
