OMG right!!?? And yet people stay on that fucking site so nothing will ever change. FA needs to be boycott and maybe that would make the head of the site step down. Needs new management. I heard the new news as well and I am about to leave FA thanks to it.
'...I am about to leave X thanks to it.'
'But I'll lose all my commissionnnnns!'
I've read this a lot -- and of course, I can see where it's absolutely a real concern!
I might suggest, If you would like to make a site your primary, and Other Site is where you make your commission sales (it doesn't actually matter what site), it's likely to not go well if you simply pull the plug on Other Site, especially if you don't have an established base at the new location. It amounts to saying 'I'm open for commissions!' to an empty house, and then (understandably) declaring the effort a failure to everyone who follows, reinforcing the belief that it can't work.
I might suggest deploying a 'faster (or) better (or) cheaper' incentive from one site over another, if you want to nudge traffic and ultimately your business to a new location - just as a storefront would.
Faster: Offer commissions on your preferred site some number of hours or days before you do on other sites, and advertise on all sites you do business on that this is what you intend to do - especially for example, saying so on Twitter, when high demand can mean slots fill very quickly. Then, when you get the inevitable 'But you filled up' on secondary sites, said person has noone to blame but themselves - unless, of course, they go to your primary and nab that spot first. If your slots fill up on the preferred before the others? You don't have to open on the other sites at all. Done.
Better: Offer more complete/more complex/on demand (like stream) commissions in one location. Perhaps 'full color' is only offered in one place, while you can get sketches in multiple. Again, advertise on all sites frequented that you intend to do so. The caveat for this one is that you have to go through the trouble of making the account on the new place to take a spot for UberNeatCommission.
Cheaper: Offer discounts on your work when that work comes in through your preferred mode. Just as before, advertise on any sites you have a presence on that this is what you're doing. Whether at its core this amounts to a higher price on other sites and keeping your prices 'the same' for your preferred, or offering a discount below that baseline on the preferred is technically immaterial; it again incentivizes coming in via the path you want.
These sorts of moves don't remove you from places you don't want to be overnight, but they do nudge your audience in that direction over time. In the end, that's the ideal, from a business standpoint, right?
I'm trying to make Tumblr my primary accout, but it seems that there isn't much of an anthro fanbase over there, and all of my recent commissions came from FA. I would love to switch over to Weasyl as the primary account. I might redirect all commission info over here - that might help :T
Tumblr is generally a bad place for commissions because the general public is composed of teens without a lot of money. Keeping that in mind, is what probably makes it scarce.
I made the above comment into two journals in their own right...hope they're of help to any who run across this! https://www.weasyl.com/journal/69579/faster-better-cheaper-traffic-funneling-for-content-creators and https://www.weasyl.com/journal/69585/faster-better-cheaper-traffic-funneling-for-social-media-mavens
When I saw that a new administrator was announced, I figured it was just a matter of time before people started digging for dirt.
I've just been going over the comments on Fender's journal announcing StarryKi- sorry, I mean Zidonuke joining, and I'm pretty surprised to see Zido admit he's been a secret admin for a while and Dragoneer knew his past but didn't give a shit. I think it's far past the time Dragoneer should have stepped down and gave the site to someone else more competent.
I was not surprised when the new admin had a brand new account that they were probably some scumbag then it was outed who they were.
NOT SURPRISED! At least it wasn't a rapist or dog diddler this time.
Long story short, fA's "new" administrator, StarryKitten, is actually notorious hacker Zidonuke under a pseudonym.

The reddit link summarizes Zido's skeleton closet. Zido has actually been a secret admin on fA for a year, and the StarryKitten account was created just earlier this month so he could be an admin openly without anyone knowing who he really was. But Scilince on fA (also the author of that Weasyl journal I linked) got Zido to confess who he was StarryKitten, and that Dragoneer didn't give a shit about his past since they're next door neighbors. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6265766#cid:43155642 Basically another instance of Dragoneer promising more transparency on fA just being smoke and mirrors.
So basically, I should treat my FA account as if the systems administrator is a hacker who has abused his power to leave gaping security holes and mess up sites before. I hadn't heard about anything being revealed, but considering the anonymity of the new account, I had a feeling something would be revealed quite quickly.
I mainly use FA as an artwatch place, and even that purpose is stunted by the massive pile of failure that is the FA administration.
There is little reason for me to keep my FA account open, and if the site continues its downward spiral, I’m likely to ‘close’ my account and stick to Weasyl, DA, and Tumblr. Everything about FA is a debacle, and it’s a damned shame that nothing seems capable of causing the mass exodus necessary to make ’Neer admit it.
I would have thought the Zaush incident and the many other bungling scenarios Dragoneer has put the user base through would have been enough to cause an exodus years ago, but furries hate change and love to spank it to Zaush pictures, so they ignore the problems.
It's not much different than real life.
I can also see how most users think these little…‘transgressions’ don’t directly impact them, which doesn’t give them a reason to care about leaving FA.
That alone gives me no hope for FA. If the community won’t band together in large numbers and tell Dragoneer to knock his bullshit off, nothing is ever going to change there.
I equate FA to doing business with China. They're both run by paranoid heads of state more concerned about their own preservation than with the needs of the people. Oh but hey businesses love all the cash flow!
I always find the best solution is not to leave either site, but just to keep yourself open in as many sites as you can to bring in more people and widen your exposure. Stay on FA and do commissions from there (of course you'll rake in the bucks and traffic) but also stay on Weasyl and get a little extra on the side. If you like Weasyl more, do more commission offers exclusive to the site, post art on Weasyl but not on FA, etc. etc.
I got a 504 error when coming to this journal, not even kidding.
FA is like WalMart. You have to go there, but you hate doing it and always walk away unsatisfied.
This clusterfuck has gone nuclear REALLY quickly even by their standards. This is the stupidest decision Dragoneer has made in a long, long line of stupid decisions.
I've noticed the amount of people supporting Dragoneer in that journal is significantly smaller than the one from the Zaush incident. Of course that could be because they haven't been back since the journal was closed and don't know it's back.
People who overlooked the Zaush thing and gave both him and ’Neer a pass on the debacle were likely people who enjoy fapping to Zaush’s art.
The new admin/programmer has no such ‘out’.
Not to mention they probably couldn't perceive how Zaush could be a threat to THEM, you know. Most of them are guys who are into guys so a sleazebag with a reputation for harassing women and coercing them into sleeping with them isn't going to raise many eyebrows.
But a hacker who once took down a known and popular fap-fuel site like F-List? That's going to be harder to defend in their eyes.
Rowedahelicon did a really good write up on this on r/furry, and in case anyone wants to read, it's here.
