Commish Reminder and a couple of questions by Myan

Just a small notice of me mentioning I'll still have commissions and sona sketches open until the 10th

Info here:http://fav.me/d71c0pz & https://www.weasyl.com/journal/61837/15-sona-sketch-commission-open

After that, I probably won't open again until sometime next year so I can work on improving my art here and there and making appropriate edits to my commission info.

Questions
• Does anyone actually see if journals are updated here? I'm not quite sure how it works, without deleting a journal put out that's bound to be edited. I just know that that one can make journal visible to friends anytime, is all. How often do people read journals anymore anyway LMAO
• How would anyone feel about me doing reference sheet commissions? I know I don't have samples up yet, but from the refs I made for some of my ocs already, I felt that after a while I might be up to adding them in as commissions. They'll likely just won't be in the same style, but I'm still working out details either way.

I don't always read a journal, depends on the title. Like if it's just "Commissions open!" I won't read cause I'm not going to tease myself when I can't buy. But if it says "Rant" "Artist Block" "Feedback requested" or whatever then I will read them. Journals are sent out to all of your followers, you can chose to make them visible to just your friends and not all of your followers (for when it's a bit more personal I suspect).

Commission Sheets are a little helpful from what I can tell. My favorite ones are those that use the same image. Like line-art, then flat colored, simple shade, complex shade, detailed etc. And it's just a bit more added to the image. I think those show the difference better than having various different pictures for each 'level' of art.

I also don't always comment on a journal. Sometimes I will read a journal and if I don't feel I have anything to input then I'll just give a nod and move on. I do the same thing for pictures asking for critique, if I don't feel anything I have to say will help or improve or contribute then I'll just move on.

Makes sense and totally understandable. I can't lie and say I haven't felt the same. Even when input is requested and I'm thinking 'oh I wanna give some, but I've none to give' then it sucks and even for the person when they were hoping to receive something. I also wouldn't doubt there are those who can give some nice input, but don't feel like it, which also sucks. Lol.

Lmao I totally understand the feeling on not bothering with "Commissions Open" journals. Better to look when you can buy (or at least look to see how much you wanna start saving up for it) Yeah, it's easier to read journals here when you get them, since you can't opt out of them like on DA, but likewise with me as I'll read journals with those other kinds of titles too. I guess I wasn't sure, considering if you edit a journal, you can't choose to either make it visible again or not, if the edit isn't important enough to show.

Oh? I do see some like that. I can't say whenever I make a new commission sheet I'll try that out, but it's worth thinking about. My other questions was about character reference sheets however, since I've only had one question before regarding them. I've no clue who'd be interested in that from me, seeing as I've not made them available for commissions before. Oh well, only time and the effort I put forth will tell, though u v u

Oh, I misunderstood the sheets lol. Honestly it can go either way. I mean there are so many free character bases and one on DA (somewhere, i can't remember where I got it from) that lets you build together the character. But no matter where you go there are limited options to how you can display the character's form. (Coloring will always be free form) However it would be helpful for non-drawers like me that can say "I like this one, but a few alterations would be nice" or "Okay, I've got the character but need help getting her clothes designed."

Even ones that allow for cloth dress up might be missing an option or two you'd like to include (Like one character I have, I'd like her to have a necklace... and another character in a story I'm trying to work on has an emerald carved into a leaf on leather string around her neck).

There might also be those who don't have a method to color digitally (which I find confusing because I use gimp and it's free. Takes practice to get it down and some guidance, but I think I do okay with it myself.) and they'd really appreciate being able to post their character online rather than only being able to post a description of the character.

Though honestly it's up to you, because if you don't have the drive to make them then they will always have something lacking. I've noticed the more drive someone has to color a piece the nicer the outcome is (they add some life to it that isn't found easily). I've got one friend that occasionally picks a random follower that doesn't really have a ref sheet and draws their character for them and makes a ref sheet for them. He really enjoys it and the appreciation is his favorite payment for those gifts.

LOL That's probably the first I've heard about any free character bases being used for character ref sheets, but I'm not the type to use bases when I can make everything from scratch lmao. Yeah, people who offer to make oc refs, will give options of which views to see the chara from and if they want, they'd allow sections on it showcasing your chara with a few different outfits. Of course you'd have to see whether the artist is alright with helping with design. Some like designing and can help. I'm...not so great at this time so asking me to help design something won't be easy. Nevertheless, it won't hurt to provide visuals to make the process easier.

Well I have the drive to make them, fortunately. Well, starting to have it at least lol, but until I provide any examples, it's not going to have anyone automatically considering to commish me for refs. Sure it's gonna have color, but I probably don't taking it further than flats or simple shading. e u e;; Aww, that's pretty generous of your friend u w u)9 <333

All of my characters came from a free base. Morgan came from that base ref thing I was talking about. My main (Anuacyl) was actually drawn for me and I was left coloring her (not complaining) I've got a line-art where Morgan has clothes on that someone helped design for me. I booted up my laptop to color and now that I think about it I believe I'll go color that line-art that was drawn for me ^,^

Well, scratch that, when I looked at it I was reminded why I hadn't already. She's got it watermarked (default) cause it's still a WIP and going to update it at least once already colored.
