Comment Culture? by neurodyne

Funny, no one seems to comment on the pics. On FA, there is always a storm of comments for each piece. Different culture here, eh? :D

It's just quiet most of the time (which kind of sucks)

    • Link

Yeah, at first I thought I had left on some flag to prohibit comments by accident, but no. Its just that way. Ppl wont comment. :D

  • Link

yeah I wish more people commented on the posts, maybe everyone will get more talkative in the future...

This place is still much newer than FA, and even though you see a lot of the same faces, we don't have the gabby lurkers we have on FA.
It still seems people are using this place as a backup for when FA goes down so don't pay as much attention to it.
    So no, i'm afraid it's not just you ^^;

Yeah, the "backup" character of this site might be a good explanation for this. I agree.

and i don't know what it's like for other folks, but i find that other artists are the ones that comment the least unless there's an established relationship or a pitch coming. and i THINK Weasyl has a higher relative percentage of artists at this point, almost like Lush Artists which is an alternative to Hentai Foundry.
It SEEMS to me that after a while artists comment more when they're looking to have a conversation or ask a specific question. Cuz there's only so many times a person can go "OMG that's so cool i wish i could do that or have you do that for my characters, etc etc" before it all just starts to burn.

Having said that Neuro, I am a fan of your work. I perk up every time you post. I enjoy your style and content, I wish i could speed paint like you and I often wonder what you could do with my characters. You're monkeys and demons have changed my mind about a few things for the better and i wonder if i had stuck more with Giger's style, perhaps i'd have ended up closer to your style now.
Your work for me has been conceptually inspirational, which is great, keeps me thinking in different ways. But i haven't yet been knocked down in awe yet by a piece, BUT I think you very easily could do that to me with your skills so i wait with bated breath, as it were.
Everything else i think DA got right with the automation Fav cuz i like it -> Thanks for your support
As artists i feel our comments to each other ought to be larger or more meaningful, denoting a greater personal emotive impact than a passerby going "nice work"
        But that's me

Is this the kind of commentary you were hoping for?

        • Link

          Yeah, something like this. :D

I use this awkward system of using a notepad and spreadsheets to write down artists' usernames, and then on Sunday is where I go through favourites and the names to leave comments. It gives me more time to think of something funny, interesting or appropriate to say. Prior the social network boom, I used to write emails as fan-mail to Webcomic Artists so I'm still adjusting to reading what everyone else is saying. It's intimidating in a way.

On the flipside, it does feel weird being the only one who may comment on a piece, even if it's popular fav' wise, as it sometimes comes across that I killed the conversation. ha.

    Weeeeellll ...
I feel kinda weird just saying "Oh yes, I like that" over and over again.

But truth be told, I don't watch just anybody. I keep my +watches very selective.
I think the content of your pictures is deliciously nasty; and I mean that in the most positive of ways.
Your style is rather unusual; I can't even start to puzzle out how to replicate it (not saying that I would; but I'm getting into drawing my self, I do tend to look at pieces more analytically now). And that's cool; I've looked at ... gigs worth of pictures over the years, yours stand out always n.n

But back on topic; I think it's ... much of the same, people assume artists get tired of hearing "OH MUR YES"; so when they see reposts, they probably think you've heard it all before.

Most of the furry artists prefer a very clean cartoonish style, very polished, which tends to get a bit boring after a while. I try to get more painterly each time I do an image. It also helps the inherent dirtyness of the subject. The rougher it looks the more visceral the feelings of the viewer are.

I don't tend to comment much around anyway. I like your cyborf stuff a lot, though.

Yup, its rural in compare to FA, but you get to know everyone's name y'know?
