What do you buy adoptables for? by Kompy

I know people buy them because they're cute/cool/sexy/funny/etc., bhat I'm asking is more, what purpose do you, someone who buys them, use them for usually?

To kickstart a story or art idea?

To better define or visualize a character you already created?

Commission fodder?

Plain ol' collecting them?

Or something else entirely?

Purely for curiosity's sake here. That, and I've seen a great deal of adoptables over on DA and here (Weazyl and Tumblr not so much since I haven't checked there) nd am starting to notice a few repeating patterns in terms of design themes and am wondering if it's just me noticing them or not :P

I generally buy them if I see a potential for a porn star.

Other than that, they get added into my main lore/story line, unless I can't find a use for them in it, like I had planned to.

Hmm I asked myself that as well. I haven't found an adopt that I would want to add to my character collection. xD But if I have I might buy it depending on the prices it's going. I don't have that collectors need but I can understand if it was one of my favorite artists. I would love that adoptable q-q on the soul purpose it was created by my idol. (Though my favorite artist would run the piece well beyond 80 bucks and I wouldn't have a shot in heaven winning the insanity of auctions. xD So pipe dream crushed and then spun in a blender for a few mins.)

Most adopts I find to colorful or like rainbows sparkles with stars vomit smothered all over it. I like color but something about cupcakes and stars "etc" placed into it's physical appearance isn't my flavor. I wouldn't be able to place it happening in my fantasy worlds. My fantasy worlds kind of filters any adopt buying except the ones deemed to be plausible.

Though on a small scale when I do see a lot of adopts. I get art envy combined with determination and self hatred. So it turns into "I know I could make a better one" mentality. Though it never comes to light so its just sitting there untouched. rofl So I end up ignoring a lot of adopts. But if it's things outside my realm of drawing. I'm not great with lizard/ dragon type things but I love them. So being able to get art of one fills in some gap that I can't really do myself. The more I analysis myself the more it's odd the answers. lolz XD It's just me really rofl. Not a reflection on all adopters.

I don't buy adoptables honestly just because I'm working on my own thing right now and I really don't have time to develop other stuff =n= I honestly rather just donate money to the artist directly than buy a character I have no intentions of using.
