Artist's Worth by Niji Tenshi

People really underestimate how much effort it takes to be a decent artist. In art, you can't just be good at ONE thing, especially if you're drawing characters. You have to have good facial structure, you need to be able to decently draw anatomy, you need to be able to draw the actual face details (eyes, nose mouth ect.), you need to be able to draw clothes, and all of the details that go with them, and on top of that you need to know how to color, shade, highlight, and color detail and blend things.

This takes years of practice, and most artists are NEVER satisfied and feel like they can always improve, which is true, there is no true finished product for art like there is for other things, and unlike with other professions, or even talents, we will always hear negativity, it never stops. Where with a normal job you get really good at it and what happens? You're praised for it. With art, when you get really good, yes you are praised by some, and it means the world to the artist, but there will always be a very large group of people who will always criticize you in a negative way. Or there are people who put you down for what you're doing and tell you it's a waste of time.

Artists are STRONG people, we have to be, unlike so many out there, our passion for our dreams is stronger than most, and we keep going, we may stumble now and then, but an artist will always be that, an artist. We are the dreamers that never wake up, and that is a blessing.

We can't just get up and make whatever it is. Art means something to us, it's not just copy and paste. We want our art to be good, and reflect who we are and what we are capable of, and we want the art we make for you to mean something, and if we can't FEEL the art, then we can't CREATE the art.

So for those of you out there that complain when an artist is taking so long, stop and think to yourself "Could I do that?" most times the answer is no. Do you understand what it's like when you're told at least once a day that you'll never amount to anything? Probably, but is it the same? Probably not, no one suffers the exact same way as another.

Artists are hard workers, it doesn't matter what kind of art it is, it takes time, talent, dedication, and more than anything a strong will. So please, everyone, remember this next time you want to complain about an artist taking too long.
