What to do by XefeWhiteFlye

Seriously, either I post commissions I've done (which would be a pain since I'd have to hunt down every artist I commissioned) or just leave this place blank.

I mean in all honesty, do people really watch my page for anything? Am I magically going to gain some amazing talent to do magnificent artwork?

What to do

If you want to improve your art skills, I actually know of a place full of resources for those who want to learn and improve: http://www.vividpub.com/resources.php?pg=resources

    • Link

Although that could be useful, I am no where near that level

      • Link

Maybe not yet, but I'm sure with time you could become a great artist! (if you want to)

        • Link

I in all honesty want to be able to draw things that come to mind instead of having to wait for artists to clear up slots for them to suddenly get filled back up due to the damn time zone difference

          • Link

It makes sense. It's like loving sandwiches and not wanting to go all the way to a restaurant to eat them. It's really strange that I read your response now, because I was just watching a video that might be a good place to start with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qejkMAMt-gE&list=UUKnUnMncnZ7zHxtxBNzdvaA
Maybe this is luck? I don't know, but it is kind of strangely convenient! maybe lucky?

It does "somewhat" help, but it just doesn't give me the drive to pick up my tablet and waster hours upon hours of drawing shite.

              • Link

Well, when it comes to drawing, you only have to draw as much as you want, for any amount of time you want. You don't have to waste hours drawing if you don't want to. If you do, you could start small. Everyone starts somewhere.

                • Link

That's the thing, I do want to draw, but.. I guess I'm just lazy about it? I really just don't want to sit there looking at stuff I do going "its shit, yep its total shit" because that's all I really see in myself

                  • Link

I actually have a similar thing going on for myself right now. I'm working on a sprite art thing for someone on Deviantart and the custom animations are not faring so well.

Normally people would say something like believe in yourself, but I already know that alone isn't always enough.

I will add this. Sometimes when you doubt yourself, you have to finish the art that you start. Even if it will not turn out so well, if you give it all you got at least you may finish it. As long as you keep trying and experimenting, you may surprise even yourself.

In fact, I even post a lot of stuff there I know will not get popular. As long as someone sees it my work will not go to waste: http://collecter128.deviantart.com/art/Papercraft-Star-Puzzle-V2-473125281?q=gallery%3ACollecter128&qo=1

I saw your dA page. I think your work is pretty good. I added you if it's anything, but I don't really use dA anymore.

No one really showed any form of interest in the sketch that I put up so I don't see the point in doing anything when it's going to get blown to the side so all the popular people can take all the praise. If I'm going to do something it's for a purpose, but I don't see the purpose in sitting there, drawing god awful body sketches in an attempt to go further, while when I show it to people, no one cares.

Maybe people are right. Maybe buying this tablet was a decent blow of money when I could've spent it all on commissions and made tons of others happy instead of myself. It's a damn shame that I would like something good to happen to me for at least once when I gotta throw cash pile after cash pile to get stuff done where if I had a brain cell and patience, I could do shittly

                        ?
Oh that was you! Thank you!
About posting stuff, I'm sure you'll be okay. Even if you don't have a lot of skill yet, that doesn't make it "shitty". What is the thing that you most dislike about your style? I saw this: http://blazeboy16.deviantart.com/art/School-Blaziken-90784875 and this: http://blazeboy16.deviantart.com/art/Xefe-Line-Art-133806231?q=gallery%3Ablazeboy16%2F4916108&qo=257 I don't think it's as bad as you say at all. I see people who are not that skilled and get a lot of people that see their work.
Take this person for example: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/orion89/
The really seem to enjoy what they are making, and are still learning how to make sprite art stuff, but they still get views and stuff.
                        Same with this person: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/lizard-socks/
They may not be super skilled of fancy, but they still make cool stuff.

I think you can be great.
If the loser who made a minor sprite art where all they change is the flame color: http://collecter128.deviantart.com/art/Charazard-M-271524410?q=gallery%3ACollecter128%2F33983354&qo=103
can make custom work like this: http://collecter128.deviantart.com/art/Megaman-X-Mega-Mission-Blau-Launcher-395218447?q=gallery%3ACollecter128%2F33983354&qo=25
Then I think you have a good chance to be a good artist.

                        • Link

Those were from eons ago, back before I even thought drawing would be a good outlet. I was more or less trying to fit in with artistic friends. The thing I could think is that I don't have a style, I'm lazy, too finicky on details but eh. If I can't even make up a basic skeleton then I shouldn't be drawing. Period.

                          • Link

Skeleton? What do you mean? Bones are really hard to draw.

                            • Link

God no, not bones. I mean as in poses, a frame so I can actually do something, not just circles and say its good enough. Stick figures, etc.

                              • Link

Oh that. Those are pretty useful, but I have a bad habit of not using them. I think the trick with those is to start with the body.

                                • Link

I don't think I could draw without a framework of some kind. I'm surprised in all honesty that you're the only one that answered this journal, I was waiting for someone to tell me to grow up

                                  • Link

Oh. Telling someone to grow up may be effective in some cases, but when an artist really doesn't know where to go, it may not be as effective.
About the lack of people, it's possible they may not know what to say in response to your journal.

                                    • Link

I don't like to consider myself artist of what I did in the past. If I can't do it now, I'm not an artist. As for people, this journals been up for ages, across multiple sites, not a single soul has cared

                                      • Link

Maybe, but I think part of that is that not a lot of people know about you. You don't have a lot of stuff out yet, so it's hard for new people to learn about you from finding your art through searches.
A quick way to get found is to draw popular stuff as well as your usual stuff. New people will find you since the popular stuff is being searched a lot, and they will learn more about your particular style from the other stuff.
You could also become better known by people just by posting comments on other artists works or talking to them.
Also, people are more likely to talk to active artists.

                                        • Link

There's a few things there. I haven't made progress in drawing, at all. Nothing except for that one little thing on FA, which I upload here everyone will think I did it just before. I am not an artist from what I did in the past. I don't really have time to draw when I'm bent over backwards trying to please friends. What am I meant to say when I comment? It would just be generic responses.

                                          • Link

You have a good point about the comment thing. Most of the stuff I say to anyone online is just generic responses. The weird thing is, that has led me into conversations before with people.

It may not matter what you did in the past if you want to be one now, you can be an artist as long as you make anything art, weather it's good or not.

What I meant by active is that you get more people talking to you and stuff when you upload stuff often. I may have a lot of stuff, but since I don't upload that often, not a lot of people respond to my stuff either. Even uploading some sketches and stuff can make a difference.

If you don't have the time to draw, don't worry too much about it. I know how demanding people can be sometimes.

Thing is, you've seen my gunpla works, look how well that went here. I can't do anything here.

                                              • Link

Can't do anything? You just uploaded something and it was actually good!
                                                https://www.weasyl.com/submission/737004/what-i-ve-done
Look. Artists often have this thing when they feel they can't do anything if they don't get enough views or favs or comments or whatever. I believe in your ability to make something awesome, because that sketch alone was awesome. Try drawing several different things, like keep experimenting and stuff and I'm positive you'll do fine.
When people make art, they always see stuff they can improve upon, but worrying about all that at once isn't going to help. Anytime you draw something, make a checklist and ignore how many things are on that checklist. Be as specific with each as you can.
Then only work on improving one at a time, and you will find yourself improving your skills and being the artist you want to be. Sometimes you just have to sort things out.

Also, gundam is cool, but I think people here like art more than that. DA is a better place for gundam.
Trust me, posting Minecraft Maps on DA doesn't work nearly as well as it does actually posting them on the Minecraft forums. (Though I will still probably continue doing that.)

                                                • Link

Yes, because I'll be able to draw different things except that. Minus that the damn thing looks almost the same as the tutorial it came from. dA isn't the place for gundam unless you're doing ultra amazing kits, which I'm not.

                                                  • Link

                                                    Objection!
                                                    http://www.deviantart.com/photography/?order=9&q=luffy+figure&offset=48
Simply posting pictures of models maybe, but I have found that many also use them to set up scenes for the real art of photography!
Combining the figures in a scene with the proper lighting and background can create something new! I can't find it right now, but I did see one picture of a Luffy figure in front of a sunset with the going merry that was pretty cool. I certainly can and is being done.

About you art, the fact alone that it looks like the tutorial is impressive! Not everyone can do that, and I'm serious. To replicate something takes a level of control. When an artist tries to copy something, sometimes they have difficulty getting the lines to bend properly, or getting them to match up well. It looks like you really tried.

                                                    But...
If you really don't want to draw, I understand. I don't want to push you to do something you don't want to do.

                                                    • Link

I simply want to draw what comes to mind, rather than having to throw cash at artists.

                                                      • Link

Right. Well, on the "What I have done" picture you posted, you have a pretty good frame started, but it isn't finished. and there is a nope written to the side. What seems to be the problem?
