First day of College by UmbriaKun

Hey all...figured I'd post a more lengthy update since I barely have time to update my journals anymore. My apologies on that I've been incredibly busy with life ^.^;;

Anyhow...My first day of college was really relaxing. I go to a local community college for my associate's degree, so I am aware that I would know quite a bit of people, but for the most part...I only ran into good people and mostly everyone keeps to themselves. I feel like this may actually be the first time that I have an opportunity to let the zen blossom in my life, which is not bad at all! I have been looking to achieve a peaceful learning environment for quite a while now, so I am beyond happy with how relaxed everyone is. It feels nice for sure~

My first class is Drawing I and then I go for Graphic Design I, both being preliminary to each its subjects, but that would be incredibly useful for me since I need to learn Illustrator and InDesign more (as well as the basics of forming an incredibly well illustration). Don't get me wrong...I do adore my artwork, but I feel that I could do a lot better when it comes to making it feel like a dreamscape as opposed to a poster you'd see in your locals :P It's hard to explain, but basically I've been stuck doing the same type of drawings for about a few years now (which would be character designing). I think it's excellent to have a uniquely designed character, but if you don't have a setting and like...depth of color/value within the picture, then you'll get something completely ordinary.

What I've learned basically from both of my professors is not to be that ordinary artist. What I mean by that is keep self-developing until your style really puts a spark within the field. Keep looking up famous artists that were superb at their designated fields (for me I would practically sleep at the MoMA in NYC, but yea, I can't do that so I'll probably visit there again soon lol). Takashi Murakami, Jackson Pollock, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali are what I consider my main inspirations towards achieving a uniquely abstract piece of artwork. As great as they are, I am holding myself to looking up up and coming illustrators within my generation (Generation Y & Z). It may be a tad bit tedious for me to keep up with, but I'm confident that I'll have more knowledge of other styles and stuff by the end of this year.

My message to you: Do not let your art keep dreaming because it will never make it to the paper if you cannot truly express what is in your heart. Anyhow...I'm glad you read this, and basically college will be excellent! Have a wonderful day~
