I have it in my lap with one hand propping it up slightly. I don't usually have a desk to draw at! But when I do, I sometimes have it on the desk with the back of the tablet propped up on the edge of the computer/keyboard, but more often than not it's in my lap!

      that sounds really difficult omg??

I really wish I had a desk to draw at sometimes ;_; I have one what would work, but I don't have a chair! So I usually draw on my bed..or on the floor, haha.

ooo some thrift shops have affordable chairs! maybe try there?

I've got a desk that has a retractable little area, so I put my tablet at the base of my computer slightly to the right, then use my keyboard and mouse on the retractable part. It works very well for me ^^

oh i know what area youre talking about i wish i had one of those it sounds so convenient omg

      • Link

Depending on the size it can be ^^

It depends on where i'm sitting haha! For instance if i'm on my couch,it's on my lap/keyboard on my laptop but if i'm at my kitchen table,it's to the right of my laptop.

on your keyboard oh man ive tried that it always hits buttons and it just becomes a nuisance

        I have my ways C;

I sit with it in my lap and hold it upright/slightly tilted with my left hand, while the back of the tablet is resting on my table for extra support.
Unless I get really into it, then the table is in the way... I have a weird habit of turning my tablet around instead of the canvas, when doing tricky lines.
I cannot for the life of me draw with the tablet laying flat on the table.. or anywhere else really, I need the tilt D:

woah turning your tablet? ive never heard of that?? thats rly cool omg. i'll have to try tilting?

      • Link

Haha, yeah I think the tilting is a combination of having a really big tablet, and never having had a table that I could draw at. When I was a child I didn't have at table to sit and draw at, so I would you a hardcover book or a clipboard to have my paper on, and then sit with it in my lab holding it up in a tilt with my left hand. So yeah, when I got a tablet that habit just kinda stuck.
I think the turning the tablet rather than the canvas thing is just a result of having used a tablet for 9-10 years now. It just feels natural to me.

Ahh that's interesting omg!! I prefer lap for traditional too haha.
Ooo I hope it feels more natural for me soon! Honestly I have the other/eraser side of my pen set to tilt the canvas but everyone's got their different methods

Usually I have it in my lap completely, or in my lap while also being propped up by the edge of the desk so that it's at an angle

    • Link

a lot of people commenting seem to do that angle thing i had no idea it was something people did? i'll have to try that too hmmm. neat!

      • Link

I think it's kinda why drawing boards are also at a slight angle, to prevent from the distortion that can be caused when the paper is flat but you're sitting at a 90 degree angle (sometimes)

ahh yeah i can see that! im always drawing on my lap or on a flat surface because that gives me the most control but i guess everyones different
