Anthrocon 2014: Large, loud, lots of walking.

I went with SirKain. The location's a bit annoying for me to get to. Not sure if I'll go again next year. I commissioned some folks, one of which I'm still waiting to get. Hoping that gets settled quickly (Always send out art with delivery confirmation, or preferably full tracking). I met a bunch of folks, some of which I knew before from on-line (Raijen, Geemo), artists I've watched (Ramzkun - complete with fish shirt, Roxikat, and SoreThumb), and other folks that I hadn't met before (ZenFetcher, Soba, Nemo, and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting.) Lots of good food in the immediate area; in walking distance at that! Lots of walking, though. I was in the Omni so it was either a 15 minute shuttle ride (that I usually missed) or just walk there. Just had my regular boots so the walk wasn't too bad, although warm at times. Kind of makes me want a furry-dense city to live in. x3 Artists Alley actually had free spots so I could have gotten one, but I never wound up with enough free time to make it worth it, sadly. If I do AC again, I'd have to do the AA to make the cost of the con worth it. Also I saw Ferris (!) and Daigo in the artist's alley and commissioned both of them. Daigo mentioned he had seen and remembered one of the drawings I did, which was a pleasant surprise. Pretty cool when other artists have seen my stuff. u3u

FurAffinity: United 2014: Boot-con

I went by myself and since I couldn't find friends to split a room with I only had the hotel for Friday and Saturday nights, to cut down on costs. I saw BadgerBen and another couple of folks when I arrived. Wound up with a first floor room which was excellent. Let me drop off my bag when I didn't need it without having to spend too much time. Also meant less stair climbing in my fashion boots which are not comfortable for wearing and walking all day long. I alternated between them and my regular boots because of that. Also, wore my corset all three days, along with my breast forms. I got a lot of compliments on my boots as well as my corset. I also got a couple on my breast forms, but most folks didn't say anything, although I did have a few curious folks ask about them. I had only three inappropriate comments about what I was wearing, which wasn't so bad, compared to how many compliments I got. Still, sure, one was a couple of drunken self-racist stereotypes from one of the FOUR wedding parties there that weekend, but the other was a guy in a fursuit. Seriously, at what point does a fursuiter, who has an immovable-jaw fursuit, decide to suddenly shout out "BOOBIES!"? You're breaking like a dozen kinds of etiquette. Also, asking "What's with the boobs?" across a PARKING LOT is not appropriate either. Stop it.

Anyway, the rest of the con, I met various folks here and there. There was the one staff member whose name I'm totally derping on right now with the vest and pocket watch and such. There was Libra-11. Never got a chance to really hang out with much, as I kept bouncing from event to event, but I talked with him and his friend some. I hung out with Ben, SardonyxFox, and a few others a couple of times. Our schedules didn't really line up too well most of the time, but we did hang in the zoo some and watch things like Gravity Falls, Rick and Morty, and the first two episodes of Kill la Kill (I don't even...) while trying to draw, but failing miserably. That was one of the reasons I didn't get much drawing done. Saw Daigo again. I went to the Gender Bender panel which was an interesting discussion. I left early to get to the charity concert on time, which started 20 minutes late... Also saw Majik (need to find her FA) for the millionth con in a row, and took the sew-a-cupcake class with her. I was a bit slow at it, so I didn't get to put a topping on my cupcake, but it's still decently okay for for two hours. I bailed early for closing ceremonies which was a waste because it started late. Seeing a pattern here? Yeah. Both were good, though.

ALSO THE FIREALARM WENT OFF AGAIN. This time due to a water pump malfunction, and not at 3 in the morning. So yay, no one to blame, boo, waiting outside for at least 20 minutes. I wandered about in my high-heeled boots, bored. I checked out the dance both Friday and Saturday night. I stayed longer Saturday as I really wanted to dance, but between the two video cameras recording the entire dance, and the music not being that interesting, I just did not stay. I really didn't like that the cameras were there. I do wish there were easier to get to food places, though. Your only choice is delivery or the pub if you are in a hurry. Or you could be like the staff and be late anyway and cancel a panel. Assuming that panel wasn't a joke panel. At this point it's self-parody, so who can say. I saw a bunch of folks in passing again, no idea if they saw me. Briefly butted in on Mathew Ebel/Pepper Coyote/et al's dinner to say I enjoyed the concert. The A/V crew really needs to fix the sound levels, though. 1) This was not a concert for deaf folks. 2) The people in the front rows don't need the speakers pointed at them. 3) People are not trying to get deaf. 4) Balance the instruments and vocals. 5) PEOPLE ARE NOT TRYING TO BECOME DEAF FOR FUCKS SAKE WHAT THE HELL? You're not going to hear people fucking in the back row that we need drowned out, use a reasonable volume. This is why I bailed on Ebel's concert at... FC? FAU 2013? Whatever it was. Too loud to comfortably stay. The dances were probably the same volume, although I guess a louder volume is somewhat more reasonable for a dance. I'd probably skip the improv and talent show, though. The former was okay, but if I was doing the AA or hanging with friends I'd likely skip it. The talent show was alright, but kind of just turned into karaoke. I'd have considered singing the Medley from the Southpark movie, but it was only a PG event...

Aaaand I don't even know what else. I'm a bit worn out. I give it a "Good But Tiring and Needed More Time" out of a maximum "Best. Weekend. Ever!"
