I'm downloading a program to do my intro to 3D final project. It's a program called 3D coat, and it makes me think that I can actually do this 3D graphics thing for games. The workflow is actually kind of fun. It's kind of like working with clay and then building a "body suit" of polygons around it. I feel kind of like I'm making a 3D blueprint for a mech or something. :B
We were using 3-year-old Alienware computers at school to run this program. Let's see how this thing runs on my 4-year-old laptop. I'll be a space monkey yet!
Yes, it works very well with one, but you can also use a mouse to very similar effect. In fact, the rotation/panning features are a bit easier to work with on a mouse.
It's got an indefinite free trial with no real restrictions on the content creation part. They limit your ability to export your 3D mesh + UV/textures/color, but it's still pretty fun to work in.
