You can't hardly swing your mouse at a furry art gallery these days without hitting at least three pieces of Rocket fan art. I was just thinking, I can't remember the last time I saw such a flood of fan art. And it dawned on me why: This is the first time in a dog's age that there's been a new(ish) mainstream animal character for furry fans to latch onto. In fact, I don't think it's happened before since I first discovered the fandom in late 2004. The most recent IP to get big among furry fans was probably Sly Cooper. Yeah, it's really been that long! That really says something about how abruptly and thoroughly animal characters have fallen out of favor in mainstream media.

At least, that's what I was going to post here. But then I remembered... oh, right. Ponies.
