My cat, Wheezy, had surgery this morning. They said it was a long shot, but she made it through! I can't even describe how relieved I am. I went to visit her beforehand, and I thought I was saying goodbye when I left her in that operating room. I sat outside of the room with my mom — I was glad that I didn't have to do it all alone — and my heart skipped a beat every time a doctor or technician opened the door. I was bracing myself for bad news every time, but they just kept saying that she was doing fine as she went through all of the stages.

I am just so proud of her, and really happy for myself too. For the last week, I hadn't been eating or sleeping very well — so while she was coming down from the anaesthetic, we took a much-needed lunch break. When we came back, we found her alive and well, wrapped in a warm blanket like a baby, already purring. What a tenacious little runt.

Hear that noise that sounds like a pigeon cooing? That's her purr.

I left her to rest, and then went home and napped for hours, myself — caught up on some of that rest that I needed.
