character meme (tell me about yours!) by Briarwood

Posted this on tumblr, but I think it'd be fun here too- tell me a random fact about one (or more) of your OCs, and I will respond with a related fact about my own!

so far it has been established that:
-Paquin doesn't really like seafood that much, despite being a seal
-Blaine plays the harpsichord badly, not having practiced in like 20 years
-Cullis sleeps a minimum of 12-16 hours a day
-Julian whittles toys for orphans sometimes
-Portos can't take a joke; also, he's sensitive to spicy foods. He is literally a 12-foot-tall dragon and he probably couldn't even handle hot cheetos

Arcus is drawn toward smells and flavors that are strong, spicy, bitter, sour and the like, but really prefers and defaults back to things that are savory, mellow and somewhat sweet.

    • Link

Blaine is drawn towards the smell of things that get him high :u

  • Link

My guinea pig Domino (the character in my icon) was based on a real guinea pig I adopted that looked pretty much the same. Although he'll eat almost anything, his favorite food is alfalfa, something ordinary guinea pigs would eat. His stomach practically has a mind of its own.

    • Link

Blaine prefers bland foods. Bread, rice, things like that. He's kind of neurotic about food; throughout his life he's been warned about a predisposition to gaining weight and so he is super picky about what he eats and assumes that more flavorful=less healthy?? wow blaine you're dumb
The one food that grosses him out more than anything is eggs in any form.

Mishya Kaz served in four branches of the Soviet Military before it's disbandment in 1991, yet still remains one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

    • Link

Deston spent four years in Russia in the early 90's. He doesn't like to talk about it :I

  • Link

Caide has about a dozen variations of his male bits

    • Link

haha well I suppose Deston does too, being a shapeshifting werewolf and all!

      • Link

He's not a shifter, but part of the problem is that I can't decide what he should have myself and everyone seems to imagine him with something different X3

  • Link

Chauncey (the guy in my icon) named his car Marcie. He won't admit it in front of his colleagues though because they'd make fun of him.

    • Link

...I only have like two characters who can drive lol. Deston's pride and joy is his old red Firebird. It's a piece of crap and he knows it, but it's by far the nicest thing he owns.

      • Link

Heheh! Well, you have some of your characters in settings without cars and all my characters are in the usual modern world setting. Still, some of them are disabled and either can't drive at all or can't drive cars. I can't drive myself so I usually don't make characters drive unless it's needed story-wise because I have to write/draw it more carefully than someone who drives (I watched plenty of people drive but still).

        • Link

I struggled with learning to drive for a long time and have only had my license for a little over a year now, but it's turned out to be a lot easier and less stressful than I thought. Just don't ask me to parallel park. :P

          • Link

I feel that I should learn to drive just to be able to do it but don't think I'll be able to buy and maintain a car in the next few years at least and I'm not the best person to have on the road anyway. But I live in a city with reasonably spread out public transportation system so I'm not "forced" to drive the way people living in the countryside and such can be.

It does feel a bit weird now that more and more people my age know how to drive (also grocery shopping sucks without a car).

my persona (hooded character in avi) is fun to hang out with despite his dark appearance,

    • Link

Jiri is decidedly not fun to hang out with. Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover.

  • Link

Loki (in fantasy settings) once tried to become a member of the town guards before becoming a thief. He failed due to lack of discipline :U But this means both he and the guards are very familiar with one another..

    • Link

Garamond (who I don't think I've ever posted on WZL oops, he's the jester mouse that shows up a couple times in my FA scraps) takes things that aren't his sometimes. He's tiny and sneaky, and he's learned that sometimes you have to do unsavory things to survive, so why not?

      • Link

haha. For my big Rat fella Chauncy (Who is not on Weasyl yet >.>) is a homeless street rat who has resorted to mugging and robbing folk. And I've been teasing with the idea that, should he ever get that chance to pull himself free from the slums, he might actually make a decent town guard! ...Or a bandit/mercenary if things don't go well.

  • Link

Threeleap (Warrior Cat OC) can hunt down freshkill quite well despite his bad foreleg, but he won't set paw anywhere near a bird. He has an irrational fear that they'll swoop him and peck his eyes out. Yes, even sparrows.

    • Link

Blaine loves pigeons! They are like his favorite thing ever.

  • Link

Zhu has problems with sharing her feelings, so she can come around a little cold. She also loves water and swimming (beaches are the best). She hates cold weather and is scared of the sound of rain in the roof.

    • Link

Blaine doesn't like cold weather either, but you could not pay him to set foot in any large body of water. Anything deeper than his head is NOPE

  • Link

I'm game! For simplicity's sake, I'll just mention characters whose bios I already have here on Weazyl (and no fan-characters, as my originals need more love...except for Saaki, as I figure DnD Pathfinder characters are fair game in this case).

-Ricochet likes UB40s's "Red Red Wine" than what should be healthy. He also likes drinking red red wine than what should be healthy, though this is thankfully a rare occurrence due to having very few means to get it (being a tiny rat-raven thing with no cash or shame and all that)

-Viledove has a fairly decent crooning voice, partially in thank to being part-dove, though doesn't really practice his talent as much as he should due to disinterest in singing to anyone who isn't his "true love" (and, uh, he's still looking for that...)

-Justino would love nothing more than to woo a lovely lady and settle down with her ad not have to still her (or anyone's) money, but his aspirations to creating a sanctuary for his endangered kind force his hand pretty much always.

-Saaki has a growing crush on one of her fellow party members, who is completely unaware of the tengu swordswoman's affection towards them. The fact that said party member is a female magical android may be part of the problem...

-Julian doesn't like the taste of alcohol at all. He drinks literally maybe once a year.

-Marjorie's a decent singer, but you'd have to get her pretty drunk first.

-Jiri settled down with a lovely lady once, it was awful.

-Serabel sometimes doesn't know if she has a crush on Portos or not?? They're good friends and she thinks he's cool and different and interesting but sometimes, just sometimes she wonders if things would be easier if they were the same species. 9_6

      • Link

-Once a year? To reminisce an old memory or just as a special occasion? I know personally my preferred time of the year to drink is around wintertime because of one particular seasonal drink made available then.

-Not even singing out the songs of war as she takes down her enemies?

-....yeeeeah I could see how that might not have turned out so great D:

-Ahhh, one of THOSE relationships. So sweet. So charming. So veryveryvery complicated for reasons that go beyond the obvious "I am a human, he's a dragon". Has Portos shown any sign of reciprocating those feelings?

        • Link

Not any special time, just an average of how much he drinks, which is to say almost nothing :P

Nope, she's super serious most of the time. Living in the post-apocalypse will do that to you.

Yyyeah, it was pretty miserable for both of them :I

He cares about her a lot, but not in that way. She's his assistant and caretaker, but she's also a kid compared to him, and he tries to look out for her and advise her in return almost like a daughter. (imagine being the boyfriend who has to impress ANGRY DARGON DAD).

  • Link

Uh, uh, can I add more since THIS IS FUN? Feel free to ignore it if it got less fun for you. :D

Gavin once chased his older sister's boyfriend out of their flat with a knife when he was a teenager.

Wayland really misses his father (who got shot by cops a few years ago) but he's the only one in the family willing to talk about it in any form, his mother and brother just try not to mention it.

Leicester lies about his son at work, telling other cops that he's a great football player and has a girlfriend. His son is a good kid but doesn't play football and never had a girlfriend so far.

Teague changed at least four schools before his current one and already hates his new classmates and teachers and universe and everything. His only friend is Jarvis and only because their mothers want them to be friends and Jarvis is really hard to offend.

Mikey's sister Michelle made his really scared of dinosaurs once. It only lasted for a couple of days though since everyone knows Dinosaurs Are Cool.

    • Link

are you kidding it's totally fun!

-Vaughn's pocketknife is his most valuable- and secret- possession. He bought it off a classmate since his mom wouldn't get one for him. She'd flip out if she knew he had it, let alone that he may have used it to intimidate his peers once or twice.

-Blaine and his brother Nevin never got to know their father; he died of a heart attack when both boys were still babies.

-Isador would like everyone at his work to think he's a super cool awesome dude who lives in a swanky apartment above a coffee shop. I don't know what's worse- the fact that he actually lives in his mom's basement, or the fact that the co-workers he tries so hard to impress are all little old ladies.

-Vaughn hates his classmates and teachers and universe and everything too! WOO \o/

-Serabel has always thought Dragons Are Cool, which is not really normal for a human in her particular story setting. It does make her perfectly suited for her job, though! (Dragons are basically dinosaurs with wings, right??)

      • Link

Ahaha, I'll add more later then, I use any excuse to talk about characters (both mine and others)! For now I'll just make it a CYCLE.

Right on, Vaughn, gotta have something to get an advantage, kids can be so mean... Wayland's older brother Walt once bullied him into talking an unloaded gun out in the street to mug passer-bys - what those unfortunate people didn't know was that Wayland can't lift a gun, let alone pull the trigger, and actually is really friendly.

And Gavin actually doesn't remember his father either, he got killed when Gavin was a toddler (and his family never actually told him the truth about that because they didn't want to traumatize the kid).

Ahaha, oh gosh, Isador! Is there a picture of him anywhere because that can make him my second-favourite character of yours but I need more info or some picture to know for sure. Also, does it work with the little old ladies? XD

We should found a club for angry teens hating everyone! Does Vaughn have actual reasons for it (I'm guessing he does judging by the knife story but still)? In Teague's case he actually was bullied in his previous schools and is still bullied by neighbourhood kids but he also developed a habit of provoking people and his new classmates really haven't done anything to deserve that.

Dragons are totally dinosaurs with wings. Also I really want a story about dragons like in medieval pictures because those poor things could only fly backwards if at all. Too bad I have my hands full with my modern setting. :P

        • Link

There's a drawing of Isador in my FA scraps here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8899807/ And no, the old ladies don't care, they just nod and get back to their gossiping.

Vaughn is just... really cynical. I guess 'hate' is kind of a strong word, but he doesn't have a lot of people he feels like he can trust. Easier to just keep everyone at arm's length.

          • Link

Hahaha, poor Isador tries too hard!

And ah, I see. Teague actually does hate a lot of people but I think teen years might be the time of most black-and-white thinking anyone ever experiences.

            MORE RANDOMNESS AHOY

PC Butts has a pen pal in London.

Alastair recently moved to London from a small Scottish village.

And Chauncey used to have really bad ADHD as a kid. His father chose to mostly ignore it and it got manageable only when Chauncey started training for police work and getting just a ton of physical exercise. He still can't quite sit still and gets easily distracted but he used to be really lucky with his job letting him show his stronger sides.

Well, my fursona does love being a show off at the beach. =P That is a given. lol

I do have him as a game designer though. He's trying to get in as an indie game developer.
