Unarmed 18-year-old man shot dead by police in Missouri: witnesses
HE HAS A NAME: Ferguson Police Fatally Shoot Unarmed Teenager Michael Brown (Photos)
NAACP: Feds Must Investigate Black Teen’s Murder By Police
Eyewitness speaks on the murder of Mike Brown (video)

Another young black man has been murdered in cold blood by a trigger-happy racist cop. I don't have much commentary, because what can you say that hasn't already been said a million times?
Disgusting and tragic and completely unnecessary. Fuck the police.

A lot of alleged witness postings, one that I found matched the video above almost exactly, but was from a young woman, entirely different person. Many photos are graphic and disturbing.

I hope that the past few years of really fucking obvious police brutality drives the people to force the government to make the police have far stricter guidelines, better training etc, because fuck this noise

by that I mean mostly much stricter entrance tests, ethics courses, actual enforcement of those rules instead of the police just protecting its transgressors and so on

Unfortunately, I don't see this happening, judging by responses to protest and attempts to change public policy in the past. For one thing, gun culture and privilege of various kinds breeds a lack of respect for the power of the weapon wielded... and even less for the lives it may take when used carelessly.
This is going to take more than a public outcry.

This is just horribly naive. No offense... people of color have been persecuted by police since as far back as most of us can remember. In many cities we actually watchdog the cops. I used to live in Los Angeles. Even when we did catch them in the act, all they get is paid leave and maybe moved, but it's rare that they face any serious charges. They're close friends with the justice system, so they generally don't want to prosecute any of their own. On top of that, generally speaking, if the victim is a person of color, the assumption by cops and by society is that the person did something to deserve the police violence. If we have even managed to make any change, it's been minimal. People are only finding out about these things more in recent time thanks to social media, but this type of police violence is not new by any means...

I was just in St Louis a couple of weeks ago. My impression of it was that it was horribly segregated. I know I only got a very brief of it but alas... Like I said to the above, these things are not new, they are only more publicized because of the use of social media. It's absolutely frightening to run into a cop if you're a person of color. Your only options when confronted by a cop is to either take all of their abuse and humiliation and just submit to it, or voice your anger and risk being killed, because god forbid we have actual human reactions...

I live one state over from MO and have visited many times, and I believe your impression is correct... although I haven't visited in years, that just seems to point to the fact that this isn't a new trend.
I'm a mixed race PoC and I know exactly what you mean. I've been stopped so many times for ludicrous things and had my car searched that it's unreal. I'm absolutely terrified of cops, because... if you say "no" to their demands--even if those demands are illegal--you could be arrested under trumped up charges or tazed or maced or shot. I pretty much stay as far away from the police as I can at all times.
