I must say that I'm enjoying the $1 = 1 pound of growth things that several people have started (Whatinsomnia, Kihu, DigitalDuck), and I must admit to have contributed a decent amount to Henry, Anton, and Parry. I really like being able to direct where my poundage goes.

That said, the very nature of these things is also a little problematic for me. Whatinsomnia's Kadmo had to go through a reset because the growth was going off into directions that apparently were driving people away. I'm not sure if there ever was a 'social contract' about these things, they are open ended, you want to donate, you donate, you don't, you don't. But it seems like a few people have their pet fetish and devote quite a bit of $$ to that goal.

I can abstractly say, more power to them. However, after I have contributed to the process, rightly or wrongly I feel a sense of shared ownership, and to see the directions some of these are going in, veering off to satisfy one or a few people at perhaps the expense of the many, is frustrating. I could point out trends in all three of the current ones going on by the three artists I have named that frustrate me, and I have tried to direct my own donations to mitigate them. But that's really not my call to make, it's not my project or character, so I will eventually have to vote with my $$, and that means no longer participating.
