BEWARE OF BULLY BLOG! by NinjaKato

Hi,

Long time no talk guys...

Anyone heard of a blog called 'Furry Scumbags' on Tumblr? -- http://furryscumbags.tumblr.com/

If so... what is your view on them and what they attempt to do?

Lately I was dragged into an argument there over something SO STUPID it doesn't bear repeating (autoplay is all I'm saying) and now it appears there's still some measure of hostility on the situation despite it being resolved.
Someone went whining to their blog about how I refused to do something (nothing bad at all) and my inbox was SWARMED (I shit you not) by anon hate and bashing. I confronted the blog to clear my name and the situation and was ignored. They refused to even listen to my reasons and even went so far as to call me 'trash' because I didn't pander to an anon's request.

Anyway...
I guess what I'd like to do is warn people about that blog. It's NOT a blog that is looking out for people at all. They use ableism as a crutch against people who disagree with anything that they say not to mention they think every word is a trigger and should be tagged.
It's literally ridiculous and I cannot even wrap my head around it. I've tried to empathize, I did but watching the replies people get for being reasonable is just... ugh.

So warning to you out there, avoid 'Furry Scumbags' at all costs!
They are bullies and will actually bully/belittle people to look right at all times.
Their moderator (one of a few I think), Foxmod is awful. Their replies to people are just... read for yourself if you want.

That said, sorry to just drop in randomly and post a journal like this but since I know this is a Furry community type place I figured I'd put it here. I don't know (or care to know) many other places for this kind of warning so... (contrary to popular belief I am not actually part of the Furry fandom heh)
So there you go...
Good luck guys and beware!
That blog is spreading a lot of false accusations and information! They also misrepresent a lot of mental disorders and people as well.

PLEASE: Do NOT go spam them with hatemail. This is a WARNING, not asking to spam them. Leave them alone and report the blog for abuse and harassment (if you can). That blog should be shut down to be honest. It doesn't do any good and slanders people's names and reputations for no reason other than because they can. SOME of the information is true but you'd have better luck on Livejournal's 'Artist's Beware' for that information. Not to mention on there it would be less likely to have a massive amount of useless banter and demeaning going on.

EDIT: For the record the situation about the autoplay on my blog IS resolved.
The blog's arrogance and spreading of misinformation is not. They slander other people and demoralize them for not seeing things exactly as they do.
Normally I'd just walk away from it and be done, but since these people THINK they are in the right and are spoon feeding a lot of people really bad information and concepts of certain things (ie: mental disorders, emotional disorders, gender disassociate disorder, etc.) I can't really not put out some warning.

Do not go to this blog if you are in fact easily triggered or easy to panic or anger. It's not a happy place sadly =/
I personally have nothing against furries but this blog is just... unacceptable. I know it doesn't represent all of you guys (believe me I know!) but the fact they try to is annoying. Leaves a really bad taste about furries for people I think.

Someone got fucking asshurt over you not changing your theme to avoid auto-playing music? Did I read that correctly?

That is pretty fucking stupid, oh and stupid being an ableist word...

This one seals the deal though of being a completely over the top, impossible to reason with, troll bait blog intentionally made to create havoc. One of the tamest responses but still so completely ridiculous that you know what kind of blind fanatics you're dealing with.

"How the fuck is 'pusheen' a trigger word??? It's a cat gif for pete sake."

"Anything can be a trigger word to someone and you don’t have any right to question it. If someone asks you not to say a certain word because it induces panic or distress in them, you should be decent enough to avoid saying it."

      What's better?

      http://furryscumbags.tumblr.com/post/90299082098/foxmod-you-are-so-full-of-shit-i-sent-a-legit-ask-and

      http://furryscumbags.tumblr.com/post/90298554753/sorry-guys-but-you-say-you-call-out-rapists-and

      He think's he's funny...

Honestly, they spend more time making sure people shouldn't be able to speak a word than they do doing anything proactive about 'sexist, homophobic, racist, and transphobic' people instead of bitching they exist. Like... No shit they exist.
'Stupid' isn't an ableist word... and 'Ableist' isn't even technically a word. It's made up and it is by definition not official mind you -- 'Ableism is a form of discrimination or social prejudice against people with disabilities'

This means that you are against people who have disabilities. When I was in school we had quite a few people with mental disabilities and they used words like 'stupid' and stuff.
These people need to learn that unless a word is used AS an insult on purpose... it's NOT an insult.
"This is such a stupid game.." is not slashing people with mental disabilities...

I just... good Lord. I don't even know how people can even follow such a blog. It's so awful and really puts out a bad message in reality.
Foxmod is an asshole. That just sums it up. I've read the replies he gives to people and they're all just so... try hard, it's almost hilarious.
I'm all for making people aware of terrible people who do terrible things, but there IS a limit. One these people cannot seem to decipher sadly =/ Everyone who isn't them or an ass kisser is 'bad' and not worthy.
      Sad stuff.

True enough, I just hope that this breed of antagonistic shitheads finally either grows up or bites off way too much to chew and fucking chill the hell out. I'm still 3 years short of hitting my thirties and I feel way too old for this shit. I read way more of that blog than I should have to find just one response that is just so left field and uncalled for that it would be impossible to ignore and I think that that one is it. Literally telling someone that a word that they can't even describe is automatically a trigger that should be respected because someone told you that they found it offensive is just way too far. I know that some people push the bounds of good taste but when you try to call something as innocuous as a word in a gif that wasn't directed at someone as being intentionally hateful or disrespectful because you won't bend to someone you've never met, you have gone too far.

Also those responses have got to be the most ridiculous deflections I've ever seen. Sad that too many people seem all too eager to jump on these bandwagons and rally behind these fools.

        • Link

It is sad mostly because I assume someplace like this could be useful to weeding out the bad people in a particular fandom. However, the moderators really should be a bit more picky and reflective on how they reply to people, and if they can't they shouldn't at all.
Acting like an asshole toward people who are a bit miffed but concerned isn't at all polite nor is it alright to do. More so when you run a blog that claims to stand up for certain people and their rights/conditions.

Yes, there's words that can trigger people who no one person can be knowledgeable or even aware of every person's triggers, especially on the internet where anonymity is everywhere, there's no way to tell who has what kind of mental condition until they tell you.
This blog seems to run under the idea that people should be psychic and just 'know' that someone they don't know at all is sensitive to a certain word. It's pretty ludicrous.
I don't understand how it's even justified really... It more seems like anyone who doesn't see things as the moderators do is inferior and are treated as such.

          • Link

My problem is people that seem to go searching for triggers to supposedly BE triggered when it is more than obvious that nothing led them to it but their own navigation. It is simple enough to steer clear of upsetting things, especially when you have pretty much all the warning you need. It's not like taking a strobe light to a group of epileptics, it's like an epileptic walking into a night club and supposedly being surprised that there are flashing lights. I know that may sound harsh but the world isn't padded and bubblewrapped and expecting it to be that way and trying to take it out on someone who isn't doing that for you is outrageous and it seems the internet community is starting to lean that way.

Clicking away from a page or closing a browser is as simple as can be. If you go somewhere that you don't like, exit out of it, collect yourself if necessary and don't go there again. This is simple advice that a lot of people need to be taking. People need to stop treating simple things that aren't directed at them or involving them as personal attack and then turning vicious when the person isn't receptive to changing their existence to meet their own.

            • Link

I can agree that people should be considerate of other's feelings and such but there comes a point where you have to sit back and go 'I can't do that forever' and you shouldn't have to. As someone who has anxiety and panic disorder, as well as a form of PTSD I've come to know my triggers pretty well. Yes, new ones arise after a while but once I learn them I learn to avoid them or to get past them as best I can.
Of course everyone is different and not everyone deals with things the same way. That's reasonable, just as making people aware of the most common triggers people with mental disorders have.
To push for people to know of the more obscure triggers people have (like the colour mauve or the sound of rustling plastic) is just too extensive. No average person can manage to keep that much information in mind at every moment of every day.

I don't like certain things but I know what they are and I avoid them when I can. Sometimes things pop up on my dash that trigger me but despite that I find it easier to just avoid places I've learned have those things to them. If I run into another, it happens. Can I blame the person who made the site/page? No. My triggers are mine, they make my mind and body react badly, not theirs. I can't blame them for having something they want or like just because it triggered or disturbed me.
Exactly. When I was growing up triggers weren't known at all. There were just things that bothered someone enough to cause them to be upset. It wasn't until I finally got to a psychologist that I found out about them. Even then, I was told to try and find out what they were and overcome them; not let them own me.
Which is probably why I don't understand this concept of making other people have to change to cater to you. I see that as impolite really, more so when you're on their turf (be it house, conversation, site, blog, drawing, etc). If you have an issue that can be eased with them possibly not doing something a certain way, ask them. If they say no, then you leave and don't come back. It's simple.
I can't ask a theater to keep the lights on during movies because I'm scared of the dark (I'm not but-- example) anymore than I can ask someone to stop saying a certain normal word (like 'stupid') because it's offensive to some people.

'Stupid lamp!' -- 'We had a crazy wicked storm last night! -- 'What an idiotic thing to say about someone you don't know.' are examples of how these words which are 'so triggering' to people are used daily. Would it be a great thing if these words were weeded out of the world? Yeah, maybe... but they've been in use for far too long under so many different meanings and guises that it would literally be impossible to guide the world to drop them entirely. The hope that it will happen seems bound for an inevitably disappointing end.

So while in a way I can see what they're trying to do, the way they do it; the methods they use are ones I can't stand. It basically just enables people to keep being owned by their disorders and disabilities. Then again, I'm more for empowering people to believe they can move on and do anything if they set their mind to it over trying to coddle them and protect them. You can only do that until they go out in the real world and find out that a lot of people just don't care. If you don't adapt or try to you will wind up terrified and that's no way to live. If we accept that fate for people who have disorders and disabilities that's just unfair and cruel. It doesn't teach strength and self motivation, it rewards weaknesses that can only do more harm than good in the end. Being scared isn't alright and keeping people sheltered isn't either.

I couldn't even find the thread villianizing you. Was this all in privacy?

    • Link

Nope. I don't even remember where it was and I'd rather not look it up. However, I'm not the only one I know of that has been dealing with this blog.
It could be a decent place to share warnings I imagine, if the people who ran it weren't such sjw's =/
It's not even about me as much as this blog just being a harassment blog disguised as a helper blog. When I dealt with what I did it was just a personal situation, but then I had other people talking to me about that blog and how they were dealt with, that and seeing some of the other responses they give people =/
Maybe it's shooting a dead horse but when I see something like that it annoys me. I reported it to Tumblr and they said action will be taken.

It wouldn't be a bad blog if the moderators took the concept of warning people seriously. They just dick around and spread false information and treat people like shit.

      • Link

It really seems like it was one person who looked for an issue and once again you got to be a target :/

        • Link

Oh the case with me yeah, that is pretty much over now. In the case of the blog they're really singling out a lot of people/groups that don't really need to be ridiculed. The blog itself is poison to anyone looking for information, and because it's become quite well known (apparently) through reblogs and stuff, it doesn't seem right to let them feed false information to people who are none the wiser.

However, I will say that from what I glanced at earlier there have been some calm messages from anons trying to at least get these guys to calm down a bit. Not sure it will work but if anything they shouldn't be so pushy. Warning people of something is one thing but using insults, belittlement, and slander to force your views on other isn't very appropriate. You'd be better off just not saying anything at all.

The whole autoplay thing is over. I didn't want to deal with it so I turned it off but the situation still escalated because someone had to have the last word. I likely progressed it by answering but at the time I thought it was better to explain the situation as I wasn't sure who I was dealing with (many messages were anons) so I kept trying to answer thoroughly. After a while it got redundant so I stopped and just turned off anon-asks.
It's not so much about what happened to me as much as seeing this blog being quite well known but really poorly run. I can't promote the spreading of misinformation, more so when you try to wrap it up as truth and make people feel like absolute garbage if they don't agree, comply, or 'change' according to their views.

          • Link

Well, you say Tumblr is looking into it. I hope they view it as a harassment blog and not just "satire" or a call out place.

This is why I don't allow anons, I want people to be held more accountable about the messages they may choose to send.

      • Link

Looks like people can't use they're better judgment and then took it elsewhere because they don't like being told "no"

Yes, people should mute their fucking computers, I always have my sound off because of auto-play ads or a livestream with music I don't care for.

        • Link

I wear a headset so my computer won't be able to put off noises the rest of the house could hear.

I remember a long time ago someone linked a thing on deviantart that would cause endless popups and at max volume play HEY EVERYONE I'M LOOKING AT GAY PORNO and you couldn't fix it without restarting your computer.

So like it could be so much worse. :I

"Outing sexist, homophobic, racist, and transphobic members of the furry fandom. Think of us as an 'artists beware' for terrible people.

For good furries, go to goodfurs.tumblr.com!"

That, itself, should say enough that these people are assholes. But, really, bitching at you for having a music playlist on your blog? It's your fucking blog, if they are gonna get their panties in a twist over fucking music, I don't even want to think about how they are in public and someone's music annoys them.

Don't worry about them, some people weren't meant to be. Specifically these people.

(And, just saying, I like your playlist on your blog. ;) )

  • Link

    Oh. My. Gods.

I don't even know what to make of that blog.

  • Link

    Geeze.
I just don't understand some people at all.

  • Link

Yeah I've been watching and shaking my head at them for awhile. Even I'm startled by loud music but that doesn't mean I am going to start a crusade against anyone using autoplay on their site. IMO autoplay isn't a very good* feature to have one websites but I wouldn't call it a problematic element. If your website had something like a screamer video it would be a different case because then you'd be intentionally trying to scare people.

*Most people just don't like autoplay in general.

  • Link

its ok they must hate me coz im borderline cis (maybe gender fluid? ), its not like you even needed to make this they are digging them self's into quite a big hole and pretty much offending people with out caring! D:
i know some GOOD furry blogs that ASKS for proof before submitting stuff to the blog (fuzzy scumbags and furry-fandom-jerks whos is not happy with what FSC's is doing so your not alone)
just ignore it they have pretty much lost all creditably now just by their own actions and hate.

  • Link

God I hate this blog. I remember a while ago when they weren't so sjw, but it seems a couple of mods have changed the direction of the blog. Most of the mods are hypocritical pieces of shit that can't seem to handle critism.

  • Link

I don't really know you but I witnessed what's been going on in Tumblr. To be honest no one has the right to say what you need to do on your own blog. If the auto play really triggered someone so badly they could have just done the most few simple things which is pausing it, muting, or just unfollow. I was sickened by the responses you got from that blog alone, you were clearly upset and they rudely blew you off. I want you to know you have my support and I am sorry there is such a huge amount of weight on your shoulders right now from all of this. I hope this does not stop you from the things you enjoy in life and continue on being who you are.

  • Link

    i hate that blog tbh
you cant cater to every trigger. they can leave your blog if they want to!
    jeez its not that hard.

    • Link

except that autoplay is... super fucking easy to remove? why even HAVE it? it's useless and annoying anyway.

      • Link

because its either own blog? they can do whatever they want.

  • Link

How DARE you not cater to everyone's whims. How DARE your personal blog not conform to their needs instead of FORCING them to click the mute button on their computer. How dare

      • Link

Autoplay triggers me, but that's why I mute my computer when I'm not watching Netflix??

        • Link

my point is people like you SHOULDN'T be forced to mute your computers, and even the W3C thinks so.

          • Link

tbh I really don't mind muting it.

            • Link

well, I'm not stopping you from muting it. I'm just saying you and other people who are triggered by autoplay shouldn't HAVE to be forced to mute your computers just to casually browse the net, and just in case some shitty asshole puts autoplay on their shitty blogs

there is too much of a case AGAINST using autoplay to ever use it without looking like a douchebag

  • Link

They're a pretty terrible blog, so I wouldn't take their non-sense with a grain of salt. This is the same blog whose mods happily triggered me, a rape survivor, and dehumanized me by never referring to me as anything but "that girl". Their mod made a huge show about how she was going to apologize to everyone, but I never once received anything from her directly.

Honestly, they're the reason it's hard to get the general public to take social issues seriously. Attack dog methods like they used on you helps no one, except gives the aggressors the ass patting they wanted in the first place.

    • Link

This is explaining autoplay from a technical standpoint though, like I could build a blog that is laggy or has blinding colors but that's still my choice, even if that means losing viewership. That no way justifies other users trying to force someone to change their layout via social shaming.

      • Link

if you leave rusty nails and tacks on a wheelchair ramp or have a hole in the floor and refuse to fix them up when you CAN fix them really easily after you have them pointed out to you you are putting people at risk unnecessarily and yeah compared to that social shaming is nothing

        • Link

That's a rather poor analogy as rusty tacks are actually dangerous where autoplay is not.

Sometimes I come across blogs with things I don't like on them, like colors, fonts and font sizes that strain my eyes. My vision has been getting rather poor, but instead of bossing other people around and telling them to change their personal blog that reflects -them- I fix the damn problem myself. Likewise a person who does not enjoy autoplay can fix that problem by modifying their browser (like noscript) or muting their computer/microphone.

The thing is if it's YOUR problem and YOU can fix it and fix it easily then why boss someone else? Ninjakato obviously had followers and I am guessing a certain number of them liked that autoplay. At least Ninjakato liked that autoplay. How is it fair to them to socially shame them when the person could just avoid the blog?

          • Link

Except autoplay usually takes a while to load up? it could literally creep up on you without fucking warning. You wouldn't even know it was there until it finally loads and BAM suddenly you have this unwanted noise you never asked for.

It's kind of not that easy to avoid... let's take the case of tumblr: on tumblr you find blogs through people reblogging their posts or in the tags via your dashboard and right now the dashboard has no "autoplay warning" capability.

And given that tumblr audio players can take any number of layouts pausing it or getting rid of it can be hard.

Also autoplay usually interferes with the sounds you were already listening to. And for people who have screen readers autoplay can be a fucking pain

And? Forcing potential viewers to do stuff like muting their PCs entirely or installing extensions and shit just to deal with the handful of blogs tasteless enough to have autoplay is kind of a dick move.

For every viewer who DID like Ninjakato's shitty autoplay for whatever reason there were probably a few who were repelled about 10000 feet by unwanted sounds being thrown at them by a complete and utter stranger who they might have wanted to follow.

and if you looked at the links I have been spreading about you'll see that even the fucking W3C wants it gone.

speaking of- you reminded me that I need to fix the content warnings on my blog. and the pallete.

            • Link

I'm sorry but that's still the other party's problem and it's such an easy fix. Why would you not want the browser extension anyways? I got myself noscript because I didn't want to get a virus or something hijacking my browser and by extension it stopped people from tracking me via statcounter and analytics. The extensions have a pretty good application.

To be honest how someone feels about autoplay comes down to opinion. Some people love them, some people hate them. The ones who hate them should find a solution instead of trying to force people to change the content of their personalized blog.

The w3c link is about optimization and web development. I did not see it discuss autoplay as a moral imperative and I think that matters quite a bit. Not everyone is concerned about optimizing their blogs and that shouldn't qualify them as a scumbag, trash, shitnerd, or the other words of abuse hurled at ninjakato.

              • Link

well, some people genuinely are affected adversely by sudden unwanted and unexpected sounds, and many people who aren't find them annoying.

so that's just expecting a whole lot of people to try and walk around a few bloggers' highly questionable design choices.

  • Link

I generally avoid that blog. I think I've only seen one or two decent posts reblogged from them that actually made a good point. For the most part they are pretty terrible, and rather hateful people.

Has autoplay disrupted my browsing and been an annoyance? Yes. Does it completely ruin my whole day? No. Sure there have been times that it was freaking jarring and gave me a jump, but it's not a huge deal when I can find and pause the player super easy. The only time it's an issue is when someone can't find the pause button. Honestly, no one can be expected to cater to everyone, and certainly no one is going to cater to someone that is rude to them.

  • Link

If people are triggered by something so simple like autoplay, then they should not be on the fucking internet my god. How dare you not cater to their super special triggers. Jesus fuck I can't even.

    • Link

Agreed. Some people sound like they 'want' something to 'trigger' them.
There are accessibility options on most browsers and operating systems if certain stuff 'trigger' them, I'm not sure why they don't take advantage of that.

      • Link

The options button triggers me, how dare you suggest I actually have to click on it and VIEW the options!!!!!!!! I'm fuc King ShaKZng DOn't reblog me EVEr again.

All Joking aside I feel really bad for the people who DO have triggers and the like. The tumblr kids are making them look like idiots with their hive mind being offended for other people.

  • Link

Hello, uh, I should probably say this part in a shout but just as a thing to start with, your art is absolutely beautiful . v .
BUT more to the point I am so sorry for what they did to you :c I've known about them for a while and they really are a piece of crap (to put it lightly)... Uh so yeah I sympathize? I'm really bad at talking sorry just I know how you feel about these people :C I hope they didn't cause too much damage for you in the end...
