My Meta-Novel by Threetails

I've come to realize over the last few weeks that the total body of my furry novels to date is starting to evolve into a sort of meta-novel.

I feel that my earlier assessment that "The Linen Butterfly" represents the end of a series seems premature now; after all, I ended up dropping a reference to an upcoming project (Metroburg) in that one, and now "DSS Vimana" might even tie a thread back to "The Linen Butterfly" thus making the total work less of a series and more of a meta-novel set in the same profoundly convoluted setting.

The result might be a little like "Au Recherche du Temps Perdu" in that it's published in multiple volumes, but there are threads that tie everything together. Also like Proust's work, I have themes like memory and homosexuality that run throughout the broader work.

Unlike Proust, my work starts at a very amatueurish level and builds toward a more mature voice and storytelling style, moving from the work of a 19-year-old sexually confused college student abroad to the work of a 30-year-old woman who has a pretty good idea of what her place in the world really is. Also, it shifts from low fantasy medieval pastiche to a crossover of historic fiction and hard SFF over its course.

Another major difference is length. The four completed volumes of my work (the "Tetralogy" that shows the initial stylistic evolution) total a little over 250,000 words. I doubt that by 7 volumes I'd have 1,267,069 words like Proust, and frankly, it doesn't need to be that long to achieve my personal goals. After all, I didn't set out to be Marcel Proust.

What do you think about this direction? Is it bad that a meta-novel that cross-references itself from beginning to end is the easiest direction for my body of furry fiction?
