OMG my tumblr blew up and I'm terrified! by BlueNire

I"m totally okay with just having a few followers and just sort of reblogging what other people put up and enjoying the scenery...

I DID post this-http://nireblue.tumblr.com/post/86868430150/especially-the-arm-thing-i-havent-worn-a

Which, at first only just a few people saw it and I was totally comfy..

THEN IT EXPLODED.

AAAND I'm so scared and freaking out a bit and getting defensive because the larger the audience the more likely people will start to tear it apart....

Already I've had to "fix" the image because people were saying I drew the figures with thigh gaps. >.<

...not to mention on that particular subject, I'm really oversensitive and take things personally....

I just...did NOT expect it to get ANY WHERE NEAR this much attention.

ooooooooh man...What would you do in my shoes????

OMG my tumblr blew up and I'm terrified!

oh man that's so great honestly <3 (your picture that is) it's so true. here are a couple things i have to say about tumblr/your post in general

    1) TAKE NOTHING ON TUMBLR TO HEART. 7 times out of 10 most of the people on there literally have nothing better to do with their life but sit there and pick apart other peoples' lives. it's the main reason why i have a tumblr account to "stalk" only. i refuse to get involved with that 70% toxic community. people who manage to find the 30% that isn't full of shit bags...are lucky. this may offend people, but it's true. some of the responses to your post show that -.- which leads to #2

    2) wow really? did that (particularly one asshole) person seriously just pull an apple vs pear shape statistic out of their ass???? in my experience, INCLUDING MYSELF, almost all heavier females i know ARE APPLE SHAPED. media (photoshop) would like us to believe otherwise. but oh my god go to any freaking public place and you will KNOW that's not true. that post has me so mad this whole thing is probably going to come out a lot nastier than i intend, but wow ignorance on that level just makes my blood boil. i need to point out i am not saying either shape outweighs the other. i enjoy both and both are wonderful shapes to have. but people who just pull statistics out of their messed up fantasy land heads just piss me off to no end.

    3) your post has a wonderful message, i apologize for the other few people who decided to pick apart the "thigh gap". again...showing some people just want to be assholes. but after seeing both versions i see what you were trying to do and you're a human being and make mistakes because you cannot possibly see all outcomes. it definitely takes away that assumption once you corrected it, explained it, and blackened it in. all i can say is try not to take that to heart. i honestly didn't even notice or think about it until i saw you had mentioned it. you cannot please everyone no matter how hard you try. you can be saving an endangered species crucial to planetary survival and people will blame you for killing the planet. they are just out there.

    4) try to remember that out of the 600 some reblogs/likes the MAJORITY really appreciate the image you've doodled up. you seem to have found at least more of the decent people on there than not. so don't let the small few ruin something good. if it helps you just don't look at the responses. just let people say what they want and take from what you have already that most have responded positively.

i will continue to support you/like you and understand that the human experience is a learning process. i, personally, don't see that you've done any wrong and if anything the more people like you post stuff like this the better chance things will change. i know i've had some of my opinions changed (about other things) through a long period of time of seeing stuff like this and realizing maybe my thoughts aren't being influenced in a positive manner. people just take time. and some people aren't going to change. don't beat yourself up when you can't make it happen. you've made more people happy than not and your message is an important one <3

    tl;dr: ilu nire <3

also i am chombiebiter on there. i followed you but like i said, i don't actually use tumblr other than to read things/look at stuff XD don't expect much from me, but at least you can know who one person is that followed you!

Completely agree with Atarashi on point one. Tumblr is an incredibly toxic, hateful community when it comes to body positivity / gender or sexual issues. I long ago learned to simply keep to myself any issues I was having personally about my body / sexuality / gender etc, because SOMEONE out there would find SOME WAY to turn it around and say I was a gross ignorant misogynistic homophobic racist etc etc etc.

But when the message is as simple and clear as the one you've posted, Nire? That's when you can really tell who the assholes are. Because there is literally nothing offensive about what you've posted here, except what people WANT to FIND as offensive.

And honestly, those people can go sleep on a pea, because you're one of the sweetest, most lovely people I've ever met and you deserve to feel good about yourself.

I saw that on my dash! I didn't reblog it because I didn't want to further the nasty commentary. It's a great little drawing though and I totally empathize. I'm somewhere in between apple and pear shaped myself.

In your shoes, I'd read the positive commentary and try to ignore the negative stuff. And keep in mind most of those reblogs are from people that agree with you!

Forget about it and let it have its traction. I get a lot of reblogs sometimes on my personal bloggy blog for fat acceptance stuff (fattyyoga.tumblr.com) and people will watch a LOT then over a few weeks it goes away, then someone finds it a few weeks later and it gets big again, repeat ad nauseum.

It's just gonna do how it do! Try not to worry about it. No matter how well you draw it (or redraw it, or edit it, etc.) there will be people who criticize it. That happens to my stuff, too, and you just have to let it go. You don't have to (and shouldn't) try to please every person on the internet who comments on stuff.

I'm kind of agog that anyone would think that's a thigh gap. I feel like anyone who would say that hasn't actually looked at a fat woman's (person's) thighs. Just let people say what they want to say. You put your thoughts out in to the world. Just let people mull them over until they're done with it. Though it is tumblr, so some day someone might find it and it might get a second run. But that's no reason to take down a valid point.

My advice? Just stop responding to all of it. Let it get notes, but don't read the reblogs or replies, and if you're getting asks about it, just ignore them as well. You're not obligated to respond to any of them or to cater to any of their wants.

Decide it's "locked", there's no need to feel obligated to redo it or anything else because other people have different views. They aren't necessarily wrong, but neither are you. :3

You poor dear, you will never satisfy the tumblrs they will always find something to bitch about. This is a fine post. I saw it the other day when King-Crowned (I think) reblogged it and thought "Yes, this is so true! I never see people like that!" Being larger myself I've noticed that although fat characters are becoming more popular it's specifically one type of fat character. Wide curves/thick thighs/thin waist/small shoulders/strong chin/jaw line. This is the "ideal" fat body.

Enjoy the nice comments and ignore the nasty ones, it's a nice piece and I agree with it.

Ah man I was hoping that by saying "tumblr exploded" that the site no longer existed and all the sjw would like, uh, actually... do something... besides bitching at people on the internet!

No matter what you say or do will be good enough for Tumblr. Ever.

The only way you can get a free pass on tumblr is if you are a non-binary poc intersex vegan feminist femme with an ED. And even then someone would call them out for being wrong.

The big latent issue with Tumblr is how you word things. There are several blogs that are out there to hunt down a specific type of person. Sadly you may want something to remain private, but the moment you post it on a public forum (and tumblr is one of more public out there) there is bound to be disagreements, and people that just can't be fucking happy for whatever reason. So basically Nire, don't let them get to you. Keep on drawing your apple shaped bodies and block/ignore anyone that tries to tell you you're wrong for representing your body for the sake of feeling good.

What you can do now about that post in particular, is block it. Get yourself tumblr saviour or XKit and blacklist it so you don't get any more notifications about it.

The first commenter said "1) TAKE NOTHING ON TUMBLR TO HEART."

people on tumblr are a combination of uplifting people and assholes that seem to think or pose as trying to cause social change but they are effectively bullies that were probably bullied in the past seem to have gotten a platform to speak on and now let their wrath out on everyone that they perceive to be the cause of their and their kinds suffering. Or so goes my /theory./

To the contrary, you will also find people that agree with you and/or are nice or uplifting or who will disagree but not be dickbags and might have a civil conversation.

Tumblr is just way more toothy than here and I think it might be partly because a reply is partly just them leaving a comment to their own peeps on their own blog, like, it feels to me at least that when I reply to a chain already on a post on there I am not even necessarily talking TO the people already in the chain, but that my followers are going to be the most likely people to then respond to MY comment, but sometimes the OP or the peep above me in the chain does reply. It's also hard to have conversations on there; I think the reply system is total ass and the PM system sucks to -- make sure you either get an ad-on thing that saves them automatically or save your outgoing PMs to a notepad file or something; your inbox gets saved but you don't even have an outbox for pms. So I would lose my private messages /to/ peeps that I then needed to later review again to know what they were referring to when I got a pm back in response @.@

But like, basically, you can say about whatever the heck you want on tumblr, but if its quality or if its shit, someone (a lot of someones) will have a problem with it.

Misinformation is /RIFE/ on there -- any news you see verify it on google. Serious it is such a shitty mess of bad info. The main thing tumblr is good for, for me, is making special themed blogs and for gathering fandom related art and news. And for dumping oddball shit that I need to post somewhere to link to. Or to blow off steam because it is a good place to bitch.

But when you post things like the body positive stuff those are things that really get peoples opinions going and attract good and bad attention. If anyone attacks you and you can just tell from their tone that they are just be like, to yourself " well fuck that noise." I am so tired of assholes on that site attacking people that are trying to open up.

I feel you Nire. Nothing I posted ever exploded like that but I think I'd feel the same way. It sucks, but once it's gone there isn't much you can do. You haven't done anything wrong and your intention is clear, but as people say above there are always going to be people that take issue with things. If there isn't a problem, they'll make one.

I think the only thing you can do is make a clear statement about the post on your own blog (which you've done) and try not to reblog comments others have left. It's like you said in your one post, you can't make those kinds of people hear you- they're already convinced of their rightness. But for every one person who says something nasty there's a hundred who relate to what you're saying and they feel good they're not alone. UvU
