[REVIEW] UNREAL Candies 5, 8 & 54 by DrakkarVance

I recently purchased some products of the new brand of candies called UNREAL.

This is a company from Boston which mission is to bring "unjunked" candy to the masses, that is: no corn syurps, no GMOs, no artificials, no chemicals, all candy.

I got 2 pieces of 3 different products: UNREAL 5 (Milky Way) UNREAL 8 (Snickers) and UNREAL 54 (Peanut M&M's) .89 cents each for a total of $5.75 USD at Target.

UNREAL 5 (Milky Way)

This was my first candy from them and I could really tell the difference at the very moment I opened it.

When you open the candy wrapper, the cocoa smell really comes out, it's just so inviting. My favorite thing about this candy would be the chocolate coating, it's just so smooth and I remember how it tickled my tongue in a very pleasant way when I tasted it at the very first bite. Another good thing is that it doesn't get sickly to my taste. You know how sometimes you feel the need to swallow that feeling down with some milk? This doesn't happen to me when I eat this. I should point out that I don't eat a lot of candy myself, I eat candy about 2 times a month or so.

And if you break a piece of Milky Way and a piece of this candy and put them together, you will see how the caramel of this brand looks darker and much more organic in a way. This is how real caramel looks and tastes like and I can tell it's real caramel myself since it's produced in various parts down here in Mexico, so you can take my word that you are getting what you are really paying for.

UNREAL 8 (Snickers)

I wasn't expecting much difference with this one considering that the only difference is the addition of peanuts onto the caramel, but it was a pleasant surprise to discover that it still tasted different. The balance of the ingredients can be compared to nothing:

the crunchiness of the peanut really made me want to eat it up in just seconds and the sweetness of the caramel and chocolate worked so well to even out the saltiness of the peanuts, something I have never experienced with a regular Snickers which I often feel like throwing away after a bite or two. But then again it's bad to waste food right? It's food, right?

...

...sort of.

UNREAL 54 (Peanut M&M's)

I don't like Peanut M&M's. Really, I don't.

I don't like Peanut M&M's because I can't taste the peanut at all, it tastes more like a flavorless edible rock that pretends to taste like peanut and ends up leaving leftovers at the back of my teeth. They just can't satiate my craving for peanuts... I should rather buy a bag of peanuts and a bag of other chocolate and eat them together, but that's not very economic at all.

But I enjoy UNREAL 54. Yes, yes I do.

UNREAL 54 was the most unexpected of the 3 products. First, the presentation of the candies is just odd...they are coated in colored candy, yeah, but the colors look darker or not as brightly saturated as the M&M's. The smell doesn't give away a lot to the imagination I guess since they are coated in candy. Oh how redundant that sounds...

However, I tried to remain neutral at this because it was after all natural color coating.

I chewed on a piece expecting the now familiar chocolate that they cook these confectionery treats with...but then, I was just shocked to actually chew on peanut as how I always wanted those industrial cooks at Mars, Incorporated to do.

At first it was just weird; tasting real peanut flavor like this was odd, but as I chewed on, the taste became an experience and the experience became something I found intriguing. And then I figured it out: it was true innovation.

I know it sounds cheesy and corporative of me but hear me out:

When I went to look for this candy I didn't care much for the vision of the company; my expectations of seeing this company in 2 or 3 years from now was low. I mean yeah it's good to care for the health of the masses but companies of any kind tend to be very merciless and unforgiving to newcomers; the only thing that I cared for is that I just wanted it to taste good. But if I can taste something novel at the bite of something as simple as candy, I can understand why they do this:

This goes deeper than just health or good taste. This means transparency, truth and openness. No "secret sauces" or "special flavor"...or to put it bluntly: no bullshit.

CONCLUSION

They are very visionary about this and I believe the innovation of the product will go viral, because if this doesn't get not only candy companies but also any sort of food product companies to really strive for better products I don't know what will.

I think we will see them making their very own ice cream line for summer 2013 and probably some awesome gummy candy if the demand gets to that point, which I don't think will happen now that I think better about it because these people are far too creative to stop here. I don't think these people will stop making candy any time soon and I hope they won't because I would really love some UNREAL peach rings some day myself.

Just go get some, it's worth a try.
