ENEMY STARFIGHTER looks amazingly awesome. Just the ability to go from C&C to the pilot are great, plus the scale of it is awesome. It's like EVE, but faster paced and (for now?) single player. Check it: http://enemystarfighter.com/

I know Planet Explorers ( http://planetexplorers.pathea.net/ there's a demo available!) and Space Engineers ( http://www.spaceengineersgame.com/ not sure about a demo) are both on Steam so it's not hard to find them if you're interested. Oh, and then this old (newer than Homeworld 2) game called Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is worth checking out if you like strategies IN SPESS. They tried a sequel via Kickstarter but it didn't go through ._. ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mostwanted/nexus-2-the-gods-awaken )
