AnCon '14 AAR and Spring Semester Wrap-Up by KronoGarrett

AnCon 2014:

Two days of fun (Friday and Saturday), apart from the drawbacks of soloing a convention and the inherent lameness of Friday at small conventions.

Convention Highlights

Artemis Starship Bridge Simulator: I love the idea, it's great with a group, but I'm so used to three-dimensional spaceflight, translation, and being able to roll, pitch, or yaw in a timely manner that it feels awkward to helm it. Not to mention that yawing without a twist stick or pedals is simply...bizarre. It's also...no fun without a group.
Heavy Gear Blitz I finally grok tabletop wargaming, and I'm psyched about the new RPG rules coming out later this year. Looks like I'll have a framework for my homebrew Metal Police campaign.
House Tekk: Now with more OGRE. Or in this case, Mechagodzilla. I put my objectives too close together, and things almost went horribly wrong. I pulled through, defeating the target with a last-ditch scout mech melee attack a mere eighteen inches away from the power core.
Pure Steam: It's...AmericanSteampunk!Pathfinder, but with an Appalachian/Midwestern/East Coast slant. Usually it's either Victorian Europe or the Weird West, so I see this as a massive improvement. The production values for the rulebook are solid, and I've started reading through the fluff and found it enjoyable.
Shadowrun: Animal control operations, plus the double-edged sword that is the fear critter power. The party, the townies, the hell hounds, and the cannibalistic hippies fled in blind panic. Ooopsie. (The unexpected rout for the New Age Retro Hippies didn't count as them being driven off or eliminated, so there was no bonus karma.)

Spring Semester Wrap Up

It's over. Got an A-minus in Power Electronics II. It was unbearably dull and not worth mentioning. Things will be better this fall.

Other News:

Expect mild technical difficulties due to cultural carpet-bombing. I've got brain latch-up. Expect somewhat more fun and excitement in later updates.
